Objective: Failure of fetal growth during pregnancy, and preterm birth, are the major causes of stillbirth and early neonatal death. The objective of the study was to determine the association between maternal hemoglobin concentration during pregnancy and perinatal mortality.
Study Design: The design was prospective, using data on 222,614 first singleton pregnancies in the St Mary's Maternity Information System database in the Northwest Thames region of London.
Results: The association of perinatal mortality with maternal hemoglobin at first antenatal check was not statistically significant (P>.10), but a statistically significant (P<.001) U-shaped pattern was found with lowest recorded maternal hemoglobin concentration. Both early neonatal mortality and stillbirth rates were statistically significantly (P<.005) associated with lowest maternal hemoglobin concentration. The relationship of lowest hemoglobin with early neonatal mortality was largely mediated by the effect of preterm birth, and that between lowest hemoglobin and stillbirth by fetal growth restriction. The lowest perinatal mortality was associated with a lowest recorded maternal hemoglobin concentration of between 9-11 g/dL.
Conclusion: There is an optimal range of lowest hemoglobin concentration in pregnancy, and on either side of this perinatal mortality is increased. The effect of lowest hemoglobin is largely mediated through associations with preterm birth and fetal growth restriction.

A 2-year-old female Assam Hill goat was presented with a clinical history of anorexia, fever, mild anemia, rough body coat, dehydration, tachycardia, dyspnea and swelling of palpable lymph nodes. Hematology revealed low hemoglobin, packed cell volume, red blood cell and thrombocyte count. Biochemical analysis showed increased serum concentration of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatinine and urea in comparison to the normal reference range.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between postoperative oxidative stress and corneal endothelial cell loss in diabetic patients with cataract.
Methods: One hundred and twenty patients who underwent phacoemulsification were selected, including 80 diabetic patients with cataract and 40 patients with ordinary cataracts. Corneal endothelial cell loss was recorded, and the endothelial cell density (ECD), the proportion of hexagonal cells, and the corneal thickness within the central corneal area were compared.

Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of sub-hypothermic mechanical perfusion combined with membrane lung oxygenation on ischemic hypoxic injury of yorkshire brain tissue caused by traumatic blood loss.
Methods: This article performed a random controlled trial. Brain tissue of 7 yorkshire was selected and divided into the sub-low temperature anterograde machine perfusion group (n = 4) and the blank control group (n = 3) using the random number table method.

Background & Aims: Eating habits during childhood have undergone significant changes, with a notable increase in the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF). This situation deserves attention, given the close relationship between UPF and adverse health outcomes. This is due to the nutritional composition of UPF, which has high levels of health-critical nutrients such as sugar, fat, and sodium, thus compromising the overall quality of the diet.

Background And Objective: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a hematological malignancy marked by the abnormal proliferation of myeloid precursor cells (blasts) in the bone marrow and peripheral blood, leading to disrupted blood cell production. The telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), a key component of the telomerase enzyme, is often overexpressed in various cancers, including AML, contributing to cellular immortality. This study aimed to investigate the expression levels of the hTERT gene, serum protein concentrations, and hematological parameters in newly diagnosed AML patients, comparing these findings to AML patients in remission and healthy controls.
