A specially designed mass spectrometer which allows for preparative separation of mixtures is described. This mass spectrometer allows for large ion currents, on the order of nanoamperes, to be produced by electrospray and transmitted into a high vacuum. Accumulation of nanomole quantities of collected and recovered material in several hours is demonstrated. The use of high-velocity ions reduces space charge effects at high ion currents. Separation of mass occurs simultaneously for all ions, providing a 100% duty cycle. The use of a linear dispersion magnet avoids compression at higher m/z ratios. A deceleration lens slows the ions to allow for soft landing at low kinetic energy. The ions are neutralized by ion pairing on an oxidized metal surface. Retractable landing plates allow for easy removal of the separated components.

Consistently arranging molecules within single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) templates shows promise for creating advanced 1D heterostructures, but diameter variations in raw SWCNTs pose a significant challenge. In this work, a precise synthesis of C fullerene-filled SWCNTs (C@SWCNTs) is achieved through vapor-phase filling followed by polymer sorting. As the SWCNT diameter increases, C molecules first stack in a single chain, then form unusual configurations, including staggered double chains and double helices-configurations not observed in bulk C crystals.

N-aryl amides hold significant importance in organic chemistry due to their widespread presence in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and various bioactive compounds. As a result, catalysts and preparation methodologies for amide derivatives have long been a target of active investigation of interest. In the current work, a simple and accessible route was adopted for preparation of a magnetic catalyst [FeO@SiO-DHB/DI(S-NH)-Pd (0)] and then its catalysis in three-component amide synthesis via carbonylation reaction between aryl iodides and amines was examined.

The design of heterojunction and active crystal face is an effective way to promote the separation and migration of photogenerated charge in the process of photocatalytic reaction. In this work, the band gap intercalation BiOBr/BiOCO/g-CN (BBC) ternary photocatalyst was successfully designed by one step hydrothermal method. It is found that under alkaline conditions, the addition of g-CN to BiOBr leads to the preferential growth of the (0 0 1) crystal face of the third phase BiOCO, and the (0 0 1) crystal face is the active crystal face of the photocatalytic reaction.

The development of core-shell materials for achieving more efficient and rapid chromatographic separations has remained a key objective in separation science. In this study, monodisperse SiO particles (2-4 µm in diameter) were utilized to fabricate core-shell spheres through a combined approach involving a modified sol-gel process and a biphasic system. The synthesis employed 1,6-bis(triethoxysilyl) hexane (BTMSH), 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl) ethane (BTEE) as a bridging agent with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) acting as a co-template.

Rapid and precise identification of the pathogens causing sepsis remains a significant diagnostic challenge. Blood culture is time-consuming and insensitive, while molecular diagnostic techniques, such as the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), are fast but greatly influenced by template quality. Here, we present a new approach to separate trace amounts of pathogen DNA from blood, which utilizes lysozyme to destroy bacteria and release DNA, followed by enrichment and purification using magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) modified with kanamycin (Kan) or tobramycin (TM).
