An accurate means of determining and correcting for daily patient setup errors is important to the cancer outcome in radiotherapy. While many tools have been developed to detect setup errors, difficulty may arise in accurately adjusting the patient to account for the rotational error components. A novel, automated method to correct for rotational patient setup errors in helical tomotherapy is proposed for a treatment couch that is restricted to motion along translational axes. In tomotherapy, only a narrow superior/inferior section of the target receives a dose at any instant, thus rotations in the sagittal and coronal planes may be approximately corrected for by very slow continuous couch motion in a direction perpendicular to the scanning direction. Results from proof-of-principle tests indicate that the method improves the accuracy of treatment delivery, especially for long and narrow targets. Rotational corrections about an axis perpendicular to the transverse plane continue to be implemented easily in tomotherapy by adjustment of the initial gantry angle.

This paper addresses a non-interacting torque control strategy to decouple the d- and q-axis dynamics of a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). The maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) method is used to determine the reference currents for the desired torque. To realize the noninteracting control, knowledge concerning the inductances L and L of the electrical machine is necessary.

Additively manufactured drug products, typically produced using small-scale, on-demand batch mode, require rapid and non-destructive quantification methods. A tunable modular design (TMD) approach combining porous polymeric freeze-dried modules and an additive manufacturing method, inkjet printing, was proposed in an earlier study to fabricate accurate and patient-tailored doses of an antidepressant citalopram hydrobromide. This approach addresses the unmet medical needs associated with antidepressant tapering.

Continuum solvation models such as the polarizable continuum model and the conductor-like screening model are widely used in quantum chemistry, but their application to large biosystems is hampered by their computational cost. Here, we report the parametrization of the Miertus-Scrocco-Tomasi (MST) model for the prediction of hydration free energies of neutral and ionic molecules based on the domain decomposition formulation of COSMO (ddCOSMO), which allows a drastic reduction of the computational cost by several orders of magnitude. We also introduce several novelties in MST, like a new definition of atom types based on hybridization and an automatic setup of the cavity for charged regions.

Shrimp farming is a growing industry, and automating certain processes within aquaculture tanks is becoming increasingly important to improve efficiency. This paper proposes an image-based system designed to address four key tasks in an aquaculture tank with : estimating shrimp length and weight, counting shrimps, and evaluating feed pellet food attractiveness. A setup was designed, including a camera connected to a Raspberry Pi computer, to capture high-quality images around a feeding plate during feeding moments.

Background: Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is being increasingly utilized to visualize the brain areas involved in cognitive activity to understand the human brain better. Its portability and easy setup give it an advantage over other functional brain imaging tools. The current study utilizes fNIRS while performing a Stroop test, which is commonly used to assess the impairment of information selection in depression.
