Aspergillus terreus endophthalmitis.

Scand J Infect Dis

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Texas Tech University, Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, Texas, USA.

Published: September 2005

We report a case of Aspergillus terreus endophthalmitis and review the 4 previously reported cases. Immunosuppression, intravenous drug use, intraocular surgery or trauma, and a compatible clinical picture should raise suspicion of the diagnosis. This species often exhibits resistance to amphotericin B and outcomes are poor despite current therapies.

Article Synopsis
  • The ethyl acetate extract from the endophytic fungus Aspergillus terreus found in Artemisia arborescens L. led to the discovery of five new compounds, asperterreunolides A-E, along with a known metabolite, butyrolactone IV.
  • Using advanced spectroscopic techniques, the researchers determined the structures and the absolute configurations of these metabolites.
  • All isolated compounds exhibited significant cytotoxic effects against certain cancer cell lines, and molecular docking studies suggested their potential mechanism of action as inhibitors of type IIA topoisomerase.

Discovery, Characterization, and Application of Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Peptide AtR905 from as a Biocontrol Agent.

J Agric Food Chem

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Microbial Pesticides (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs), National Biopesticide Engineering Research Centre, Hubei Biopesticide Engineering Research Centre, Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wuhan 430064, China.

This study investigates a novel antimicrobial peptide AtR905 derived from the endophytic fungus , which was successfully expressed in , purified, and characterized, and highlighted as a promising potential biocontrol agent against various plant pathogens. The results indicated AtR905 exhibited broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities against key pathogens such as and with very low minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs). Stability tests confirmed that AtR905 retains its antimicrobial properties under varying thermal, pH, and UV conditions.
