Published: July 2005

The Strategic Plan for National Institutes of Health (NIH) Obesity Research is intended to serve as a guide for coordinating obesity research activities across the NIH and for enhancing the development of new efforts based on identification of areas of greatest scientific opportunity and challenge. Developed by the NIH Obesity Research Task Force with critical input from external scientists and the public, the Strategic Plan reflects a dynamic planning process and presents a multidimensional research agenda, with an interrelated set of goals and strategies for achieving the goals. The major scientific themes around which the Strategic Plan is framed include the following: preventing and treating obesity through lifestyle modification; preventing and treating obesity through pharmacologic, surgical, or other medical approaches; breaking the link between obesity and its associated health conditions; and cross-cutting topics, including health disparities, technology, fostering of interdisciplinary research teams, investigator training, translational research, and education/outreach efforts. Through the efforts described in the Strategic Plan for NIH Obesity Research, the NIH will strive to facilitate and accelerate progress in obesity research to improve public health.

Two decades later, this report aims to explore the current functioning of the regional network, with special focus on clinical genetics in the evolving scenarios. To this aim, we analyzed the activity data of the medical genetics services in the region, to identify and possibly improve currently open issues.

The efficient recovery of fine argentite from polymetallic lead-zinc (Pb-Zn) sulfide ore is challenging. This study investigated nanobubble (NB) adsorption on the argentite surface and its role in enhancing fine argentite flotation using various analytical techniques, including contact angle measurements, adsorption capacity analysis, infrared spectroscopy, zeta potential measurements, turbidity tests, microscopic imaging, scanning electron microscopy, and flotation experiments. Results indicated that the NBs exhibited long-term stability and were adsorbed onto the argentite surface, thereby enhancing surface hydrophobicity, reducing electrostatic repulsion between fine argentite particles, and promoting particle agglomeration.

Objective: Treatment of cervical cancer patients in Uganda is hampered by late diagnosis due to the unavailability of timely screening and limited availability of advanced cancer care. This study evaluated the clinical presentation and management of cervical cancer patients presenting at the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) in Kampala, the tertiary oncology facility in Uganda with access to radiotherapy and reflected on daily clinical practice to identify priority areas for improving cervical cancer care in Uganda.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed medical records of all cervical cancer patients presenting to UCI between January 2017 and March 2018 for sociodemographic characteristics and clinical variables with descriptive statistics.

Instead of relying on a single, dyadic mentor for career advice, we suggest creating and intentionally cultivating a professional network of colleagues (PNC) to guide your academic career. There are four archetypes to help clinician educators succeed in academic medicine: a traditional mentor, a sponsor, a coach, and a connector.1 However, these roles are not discrete, and overlap occurs.
