Comprehensive discovery and functional characterization of the noncanonical proteome.

Cell Res

January 2025

The Center for RNA Medicine, International Institutes of Medicine, International School of Medicine, The 4th Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Yiwu, Zhejiang, China.

The systematic identification and functional characterization of noncanonical translation products, such as novel peptides, will facilitate the understanding of the human genome and provide new insights into cell biology. Here, we constructed a high-coverage peptide sequencing reference library with 11,668,944 open reading frames and employed an ultrafiltration tandem mass spectrometry assay to identify novel peptides. Through these methods, we discovered 8945 previously unannotated peptides from normal gastric tissues, gastric cancer tissues and cell lines, nearly half of which were derived from noncoding RNAs.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of minimally invasive dermabrasion for deep second-degree facial burn wounds during the early postburn phase.

Methods: A total of 35 patients with deep second-degree facial burns underwent minimally invasive debridement using a hydrosurgery system within 2-4 days post-injury. Subsequently, the wounds were covered with human biological dressings.

Metabolic reprogramming is important in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) development. However, studies investigating the metabolic signature within the liver of PBC patients are limited. In this study, liver biopsies from 31 PBC patients and 15 healthy controls were collected, and comprehensive metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics analysis were conducted to characterize the metabolic landscape in PBC.

Exploring novel drug targets for erectile dysfunction through plasma proteome with genome.

Sex Med

December 2024

Department of Urology, The Second Hospital & Clinical Medical School, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou 730030, Gansu, China.

Background: Currently, the treatment and prevention of erectile dysfunction (ED) remain highly challenging.

Aim: This study conducted a systematic druggable genome-wide Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to identify potential therapeutic targets for ED.

Methods: A proteome-wide MR approach was employed to investigate the causal effects of plasma proteins on ED.
