Background: The aim of this study was to determine the induction and distribution of Mallory body (MB) and oval cells in carbon-tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced rat liver fibrosis.
Materials And Methods: MBs and oval cells expressing cytokeratins (CKs) 8 and 18 were monitored by immuno-histochemistry and immunoblotting.
Results: MBs were mainly detected within hepatocytes near the fibrotic areas, and oval cells were located along or in the fibrotic areas. Both MBs and oval cells increased in size and number in the development of fibrosis. At cirrhotic liver, most of the oval cells were located in the fibrous septa and around newly formed bile ductules. Moreover, as hepatic injuries developed into fibrosis, a much more prominent single band of CK18 was detected.
Conclusion: The occurrence and distribution of MB and oval cells in CCl4-induced rat liver fibrosis are reported. This represents the first CCl4 experimental in vivo model of MB induction, which will be useful for further investigations on the pathogenesis of MB.

To investigate the clinicopathological and molecular genetic characteristics of intracranial mesenchymal tumors with FET::CREB fusion transcript. The clinical and imaging data of 6 cases of intracranial mesenchymal tumors with FET::CREB fusion from December 2018 to December 2023 were collected at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. Their histological features, immunophenotype and molecular characteristics were analyzed.

Background/aim: Appendiceal neuroendocrine tumors (ANETs) are the most prevalent type of appendiceal neoplasm and the fifth most common neuroendocrine tumor in the gastrointestinal tract. In this study, we described the clinicopathological features of patients with ANET.
Patients And Methods: We reviewed the clinicopathological findings and histopathological reports of six patients diagnosed with ANET between January 2014 and December 2023 at Korea University Medical Center, Anam Hospital.

Rapidly identifying and sequencing viral pathogens in poultry flocks can substantially reduce economic loss especially during disease outbreaks. Current next generation sequencing technologies require multi-step laboratory-intensive workflows to generate sequence data which precludes field adaptation. In this study, we hypothesized that direct RNA sequencing (DRS) using an Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) MinION device would enable sequencing of the full-length viral RNA genome of Orthoavulavirus javaense (OAVJ), the causative of Newcastle disease, a major poultry challenge.

During the study of algal diversity in pyroclastic deposits of the Kamchatka Peninsula, Chlorella-like green algae strains VCA-72 and VCA-93 were isolated from samples collected from along the Baydarnaya river bed on the Shiveluch volcano in 2018 and at the outlet of thermal vapors along the edge of the caldera on the southern slope of the Gorely volcano in 2020. Identification of the strains was carried out within the framework of an integrative approach using microscopic and molecular genetic methods, including preliminary taxon identification, obtaining nucleotide sequences of the small subunit and the internal transcribed spacer rRNA, reconstruction of phylogenetic trees and secondary structures of the ITS1 and ITS2 rRNA regions. On the phylogenetic tree, strain VCA-93 was clustered in the Micractinium thermotolerans species clade.
