Aim: To assess the correlation between the expression profiles of ribosomal protein S6 kinase (S6K1/2), Ki-67 nuclear antigen (Ki-67) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in human breast adenocarcinomas.

Methods: The expression pattern of S6K1/2, Ki-67 and PCNA has been investigated by immunohistochemical analysis of formalin fixed paraffin embedded sections of 40 human breast adenocarcinomas. Analysis was performed using specific monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies directed against S6K2, Ki-67 and PCNA followed by semi-quantitative measurements.

Results: Positive correlation between nuclear staining for S6K2 and PCNA (p < or = 0.01) or Ki-67 (p < or = 0.01) in breast cancer cells has been detected. No significant correlation in nuclear staining was observed between S6K1 and PCNA or Ki-67. In addition, we have detected an increase in S6K2 expression in the nuclei of cancer cells localized predominantly in peripheral areas of the tumor contacting with normal tissue.

Conclusion: The accumulation of S6K2, but not S6K1, in the nuclei of cancer cells and the correlation with the expression of PCNA and Ki-67 suggest the involvement of S6K2 in the regulation of malignant growth.

Chronic kidney disease is defined as a progressive loss of kidney function associated with impaired recovery after acute kidney injury. Renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) induces oxidative stress and inflammatory responses leading to severe tissue damage, where incomplete or maladaptive repair accelerates renal fibrosis and aging. To investigate the role of the purinergic P2Y2 receptor (P2Y2R) in these processes, we used P2Y2R knockout (KO) mice subjected to IR.

Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) fused to IgG, IgA and IgM Fc domains was expressed to create IgG, IgA and IgM-like structures as anti-cancer vaccines in Nicotiana tabacum. High-mannose glycan structures were generated by adding a C-terminal endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention motif (KDEL) to the Fc domain (FcK) to produce EpCAM-Fc and EpCAM-FcK proteins in transgenic plants via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Cross-fertilization of EpCAM-Fc (FcK) transgenic plants with Joining chain (J-chain, J and JK) transgenic plants led to stable expression of large quaternary EpCAM-IgA Fc (EpCAM-A) and IgM-like (EpCAM-M) proteins.

Background: Acute liver injury is a common pathological feature of various clinical diseases, and prolonged liver damage can lead to fibrosis and even liver failure. Studies have reported that the vagus nerve can repair liver injury through the regulation of the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway. However, there is limited research on the regulation of interleukin-22 and its role in liver injury.

Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Guangzhou First People's Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University, 1 Panfu Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, 510180, China.

Background: Epidermal stem cells (ESCs) are primarily located in the basal layer of the epidermis and play a crucial role in wound healing. ESCs-derived exosomes (ESCs-Exo) are emerging as promising candidates for skin regeneration and wound healing. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

High mobility group protein N2 (HMGN2) related pathways are involved in chromatin regulation/acetylation. It has been reported to be involved in several types of cancers. A recent sequencing study suggested that HMGN2 might be involved in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
