We report a case series of acute arsenic poisoning of 2 siblings, a 4-month-old male infant and his 2-year-old sister. Each child ingested solubilized inorganic arsenic from an outdated pesticide that was misidentified as spring water. The 4-month-old child ingested a dose of arsenic that was lethal despite extraordinary attempts at arsenic removal, including chelation therapy, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, exchange transfusion, and hemodialysis. The 2-year-old fared well with conventional therapy.

This study aimed to analyze the baseline clinical characteristics, as well as the clinical features and risk factors of early death (ED) in older patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). A retrospective analysis was conducted on 198 consecutive older patients (age ≥ 50 years) with newly diagnosed APL who received arsenic trioxide alone as induction therapy, with 354 younger patients (age < 50 years) as controls. Ten easily obtainable clinical parameters were selected.

Over 10% of the global population is at risk to kidney disorders. Nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-related factor 2 (NRF2), a pivotal regulator of redox homeostasis, orchestrates antioxidant response that effectively counters oxidative stress and inflammatory response in a variety of acute pathophysiological conditions, including acute kidney injury (AKI) and early stage of renal toxicity. However, if persistently activated, NRF2-induced transcriptional cascade may disrupt normal cell signaling and contribute to numerous chronic pathogenic processes such as fibrosis.

With the increasing use of lithium-ion batteries, the exposure and health effects of lithium nickel manganate cobalt (NMC), a popular cathode material for the battery, have attracted widespread attention. However, the main absorption routes and target organs of NMC are unknown. This study aims to systematically investigate the main absorption routes and target organs of NMC.
