Triton X-100 (TX-100) is the most common surfactant used to split viruses during the production of influenza split-virus vaccines. It is a mild surfactant not known to denature the viral proteins; this property makes TX-100 useful for maintaining antigen conformational structure, and, as an added benefit, for partially stabilizing vaccine formulations against protein aggregation. Despite its benefits, TX-100 needs to be filtered out after virus splitting has been achieved, due to its toxicity in large quantities.

Laminins are major components of all basement membranes surrounding nerve or vascular tissues. In particular laminin-111, the prototype of the family, facilitates a large spectrum of fundamental cellular responses in all eukaryotic cells. Laminin-111 is a biomaterial frequently used in research, however it is primarily isolated from non-human origin or produced with time-intensive recombinant techniques at low yield.

Glucosinolates are plant secondary metabolites abundant in Brassica vegetables that are substrates for the enzyme myrosinase, a thioglucoside hydrolase. Enzyme-mediated hydrolysis of glucosinolates forms several organic products, including isothiocyanates (ITCs) that have been explored for their beneficial effects in humans. Myrosinase has been shown to be tolerant of non-natural glucosinolates, such as 2,2-diphenylethyl glucosinolate, and can facilitate their conversion to non-natural ITCs, some of which are leads for drug development.

The rise of multiple-drug resistance in bacterial pathogens imposes a serious public health concern and has led to increased interest in studying various pathways as well as enzymes. Different DNA glycosylases collaborate during bacterial infection and disease by overcoming the effects of ROS- and RNS-mediated host innate immunity response. 3-Methyladenine DNA glycosylase I, an essential DNA repair enzyme, was chosen for the present study from the MDR species of A.
