A high-performance liquid chromatographic technique for the simultaneous determination of prednisolone and prednisone in human plasma, whole blood, urine, and bound-to-plasma proteins, using betamethasone as internal standard, is presented. Liquid-liquid extraction is used for whole blood samples, and solid phase extraction is used for plasma, urine, and proteins bound to plasma. The accuracy, precision, specificity, linearity, and repeatability meet the requirements of current recommendations in bioanalytical method validation. The method is suitable for high altitude pharmacokinetic studies, in which the quantitation of drugs in those fluids is required. The results from healthy volunteers are presented.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an extremely rare disorder in children. We report a nine-month-old girl with PG who presented with high-grade fever and rapidly progressive ulcers at the site of a Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) inoculation 2 months after the immunization. Additional small pustules developed on her hand and posterior neck three months after the immunization and rapidly progressed.

Introduction: Acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease (AE-ILD) often results in death and poses significant challenges in clinical management. While corticosteroids are frequently employed, the optimal regimen and their clinical efficacy remain uncertain. To address this knowledge gap, we undertook a systematic review to evaluate the impact of steroid therapy on clinical outcomes in patients experiencing AE-ILD.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a multi-organ autoimmune disorder that is treated by immunosuppressive agents that weaken the immune defense against opportunistic pathogens and latent infections such as strongyloidiasis. Herein, we report the case of a 43-year-old woman known to have systemic lupus erythematosus who presented with gastrointestinal symptoms, edema, and bone pain 2 months after receiving immunosuppressive treatment.
Case Presentation: A 43-year-old Iranian female known to have systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome presented with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and generalized edema.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin disorder characterised by hypersensitivity to allergens, eczematous lesions and pruritus. The aim of this study was to comprehensively characterise a murine model of dermatitis and assess the similarity with the human disease, as well as to profile clinically relevant AD therapies. Four repeated topical administrations of oxazolone in the auricular skin of sensitised mice induced morphological features compatible with AD, including redness and swelling, as well as histological changes typical of spongiotic (eczematous) dermatitis and increased plasmatic IgE.

Background: It is unknown if glucocorticoid malabsorption contributes to the approximate 50% treatment failure rate in dogs with protein-losing enteropathy (PLE).
Objective: To compare pharmacokinetics (PK) of orally administered prednisolone in dogs with PLE vs healthy controls.
Animals: Fourteen dogs with well-characterized PLE and 7 control dogs.
