Objective: The objective of this study was to identify magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of fibrocystic change (FCC) of the breast.

Materials And Methods: Fourteen patients with a histopathologic diagnosis of solitary FCC of the breast underwent x-ray mammography and MRI of the breast. Three experienced breast imaging radiologists retrospectively reviewed the MRI findings and categorized the lesions on morphologic and kinetic criteria according to the ACR BI-RADS-MRI Lexicon.

Results: The most striking morphologic feature of fibrocystic change was nonmass-like regional enhancement found in 6 of 14 (43%) FCC lesions. Based on morphologic criteria alone, 12 of 14 (86%) lesions were correctly classified as benign. According to analysis of the time-intensity curves, 10 of 14 (71%) FCC lesions were correctly classified as benign.

Conclusion: Although FCC has a wide spectrum of morphologic and kinetic features on MRI, it most often presents as a mass or a nonmass-like regional enhancing lesion with benign enhancement kinetics.

Epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been shown to play an essential role in the early stages of cancer cell invasion and metastasis. Inducible EMT models can initiate EMT in a controlled manner, thereby providing the opportunity to determine whether a cancer-associated gene influences cancer metastasis by triggering EMT. Moreover, different inducible EMT models enable the investigation of specific mechanisms of EMT modulation by various genes, facilitating a more precise understanding of how these genes influence cancer metastasis through the induction of EMT.

Article Synopsis
  • - Danazol is a synthetic progestin with androgenic effects approved for treating conditions like endometriosis and is increasingly used for menstrual suppression in transgender and nonbinary individuals, despite a lack of research on its efficacy in this population
  • - A retrospective study reviewed the experiences of transgender patients using danazol for menstrual suppression at two healthcare centers between 2000 and 2022, comparing those who did and did not use the treatment
  • - Results indicated that most patients remained on danazol during follow-ups, with improvements in gender dysphoria, pelvic pain, and menstrual symptoms, and most achieved amenorrhea, suggesting its potential as an effective option for menstrual suppression in this demographic

Introduction: MRI-guided biopsy is the standard of care for breast imaging findings seen only by MRI. Although a non-zero false-negative rate of MRI-guided breast biopsy has been reported by multiple studies, there are varied practice patterns for imaging follow-up after a benign concordant MRI guided biopsy. This study assessed the outcomes of benign concordant MRI-guided biopsies at a single institution.

Molecular Breast Imaging Biopsy with a Dual-Detector System.

Radiol Imaging Cancer

June 2024

From the Department of Radiology, Mayo Clinic, 200 First St SW, Rochester, MN 55905.

Purpose To develop a molecular breast imaging (MBI)-guided biopsy system using dual-detector MBI and to perform initial testing in participants. Materials and Methods The Stereo Navigator MBI Accessory biopsy system comprises a lower detector, upper fenestrated compression paddle, and upper detector. The upper detector retracts, allowing craniocaudal, oblique, or medial or lateral biopsy approaches.

Background And Objective: Focal asymmetric breast densities (FABD) present a diagnostic challenge concerning the need for a further histologic workup to rule out malignancy. We therefore aim to correlate ultrasonography and mammographic findings in women with FABD and evaluate the use of ultrasonography as a workup tool.

Methodology: This is a retrospective study of women who underwent targeted breast sonography due to FABD with a mammogram in a private diagnostic centre in Abuja over three years (2016-2018).
