AI Article Synopsis

  • This study presents a new method for creating thin film nanoassemblies on semiconductor surfaces using linked aminosilane/stannane units through basic chemistry techniques.
  • By applying this methodology, the researchers found that these nanoassemblies can serve as effective sites for crystallizing octadecanol.
  • The resulting crystal structures can be customized by making slight adjustments to the backbone structure of the aminosilane/stannane compounds used.

Article Abstract

A serial templating methodology using linked aminosilane/stannane units and simple beaker chemistry yields thin film nanoassemblies on semiconductor surfaces that provide nucleating sites for crystallization of octadecanol, the morphologies of which could be tailored using subtle variations in the backbone structure of bridged aminosilane/stannanes.

The article delves into the intricate phase transitions of 1-Octadecanol and n-Nonadecane within a binary system, unveiling dynamic structural changes under varying conditions. Through Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis, specific molecular vibrations were identified, shedding light on the molecular composition and interactions. The study highlights the challenges in detecting subtle phase transitions and emphasises the individuality of molecular behaviours in closely related compounds.

Highly anisotropic-shaped particles with well-ordered internal nanostructures have received significant attention due to their unique shape-dependent photonic, rheological, and electronic properties and packing structures. In this work, nanosheet particles with cylindrical block copolymer (BCP) arrays are achieved by utilizing collapsed emulsions as a scaffold for BCP self-assembly. Highly elongated structures with large surface areas are formed by employing crystallizable surfactants that significantly reduce the interfacial tension of BCP emulsions.

Two kinds of CA-SA-based ternary phase change materials (PCMs), namely, capric acid-stearic acid-palmitic acid (CA-SA-PA) and capric acid-stearic acid-octadecanol (CA-SA-OD), were prepared by the melting-blending method. By the step cooling curve method, the optimum mass ratio of the two PCMs were determined to be CA : SA : PA = 77.4 : 8.

We characterized the adsorption and desorption of α-gel (α-form hydrated crystal) dispersions in aqueous media using a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) technique. The α-gel was formed from a mixture of N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]docosanamide (APA-22) L-lactic acid salt, 1-octadecanol (COH), and water. The solid substrate employed in this study as a model for hair was silica.

Pharmaceutical eutectics are solid mixtures, where the crystals of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) are finely divided in the phase-separated microstructures. The size reduction makes the eutectic formation a viable option to improve the dissolution rate of the poorly soluble APIs. In the present study, ibuprofen, naproxen, and sorafenib were investigated in terms of their phase behaviors with fatty alcohols, such as tetradecanol, octadecanol, and docosanol.
