The biotransformation of metals is an exciting, developing strategy to treat metal contamination, especially in environments that are not accessible to other remediation technologies. However, our ability to benefit from these strategies hinges on our ability to monitor these transformations in the environment. This involves monitoring metals in both solid and aqueous samples, distinguishing between different chemical states, and obtaining information on the activities of specific microbial taxa in communities that inhabit the treated site. Accomplishing these goals requires cooperation among scientists from various disciplines and would benefit from both new, innovative approaches and the tailoring of established methods to control metal mobility in the environment.

Propyrisulfuron, a novel sulfonylurea herbicide, effectively suppresses intracellular acetolactate synthase activity for weed control, but its adsorption behavior in the soil environment remains unclear. To assess potential agroecosystem risks, the adsorption-desorption behavior and mechanism of propyrisulfuron in six typical agricultural soils of China were investigated using a batch equilibrium method, Density Functional Theory (DFT), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy equipped with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) techniques. It is indicated that the adsorption-desorption of propyrisulfuron in six soils reached equilibrium at 36 hours under the optimum water-to-soil ratio (WSr) of 5:1.

Dust aerosols significantly impact climate, human health, and ecosystems, but how land cover (LC) changes influence dust concentrations remains unclear. Here, we applied the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) to assess the effects of LC changes on dust aerosol concentrations from 2000 to 2020 in northern China. The almost hydrophobic PVDF membrane (PVDF matrix) commonly exhibited excellent performance in pollutant rejection but with poor anti-fouling performance. This study intended to develop the rejection performance and enhance anti-fouling of the PVDF membrane in an O/UF/BAC system for high quality water production through leveraging the advantages of in-situ ozonation and the nature of the PVDF membrane. Reduced density gradient (RDG) analysis demonstrated that the PVDF membrane exhibited excellent ozone resistance by reducing hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions between the membrane surface and ozone.
