Article Synopsis
  • - Albendazole (ABZ) is commonly used to treat parasitic infections in animals, but its overuse can lead to harmful drug residues in food and resistance, posing risks to human health.
  • - A new dual-emission europium fluorescent sensor (EuUHC-30) has been developed to detect ABZ and its toxic metabolite, albendazole sulfoxide (ABZSO), with high sensitivity and low detection limits.
  • - This sensor can be used to quantify ABZ and ABZSO in animal-derived food such as milk and pig kidney and includes a smartphone-assisted feature for practical application, offering a quick and effective detection method.

Ricobendazole hydrochloride is an active ingredient of a veterinary antiparasitic drug. The aim of this study was to investigate the degradation of ricobendazole hydrochloride under stress and stability testing conditions, for which we developed and validated the first stability indicating, specific, precise, accurate, and robust assay and related substances UPLC methods. The Acquity UPLC BEH C column was used for the related substances and assay analyses of ricobendazole hydrochloride, and the analyses were performed at 25 °C sample and 30 °C column temperatures with a 2 µL injection volume.

The performance criteria of analytical methods and the necessity for stability analysis to provide the accuracy of the results of the analyzed samples are explained in European Commission Decision 2021/808/EC and the guidance document SANTE/2021/11312. Detection of time-dependent changes in drug concentrations during storage or transport and re-analysis of samples are crucial to obtain high-quality results and reliable data. In this way, it allows toxicologists to interpret the analytical results accurately in drug analyses.

A sensitive and novel electrochemical senser, acetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-immobilized nitrogen rich g-CN nanosheet modified carbon paste electrode was developed, for the electrochemical investigation of the anthelmintic drug Albendazole (ABZ) using voltammetric tools like cyclic and square wave voltammetry. The results showed that the modified carbon paste electrode exhibited remarkable electro-catalytic action towards the electrochemical oxidation of ABZ in a phosphate buffer solution at pH 3 compared to bare carbon paste electrode. The electrode material was characterized by CV, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).

Instituto de Química, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil.

Analytical methodology for quantification of 15 antiparasitic drugs and their respective metabolites in laying hen eggs was optimized and validated. The method uses acetonitrile as solvent extraction, sodium chloride for salting-out, low-temperature purification and analysis by LC-MS/MS. A total of 348 egg samples were collected in 11 states of Brazil and 50% of the total samples presented antiparasitic residues, which were albendazole, fipronil, fenbendazole, ivermectin, oxibendazole and mebendazole.
