The development of new antibacterial drugs is essential for staying ahead of evolving antibiotic resistant bacterial (ARB) threats, ensuring effective treatment options for bacterial infections, and protecting public health. Herein, we successfully designed and synthesized two novel gold(III)- NHC complexes, [Au(1)(bpy)Cl][PF] (2) and [Au(1)(phen)Cl][PF] (3) based on the proligand pyridyl[1,2-a]{2-pyridylimidazol}-3-ylidene hexafluorophosphate (1⋅HPF) [bpy=2,2'-bipyridine; phen=1,10-phenanthroline]. The synthesized complexes were characterized spectroscopically; their geometries and structural arrangements were confirmed by single crystal XRD analysis.

Staying Ahead of the Curve: The Case for Recovery Curves in Total Knee Arthroplasty.

J Arthroplasty

September 2024

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Northwell Health, New York, New York.

Background: Sensor technology embedded within the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) implant has the potential to record data that can track recovery and provide diagnostic information. In this study, we introduce the concept of physical function recovery curve analytics, which are created from daily spatial-temporal gait metrics and step counts from a large cohort of TKA patients.

Methods: In our study population, 258 patients underwent a primary TKA with a smart implanted tibial extension between October 4, 2021, and July 15, 2022, by 33 surgeons.

In Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the settings of the critical alarms should be sensitive and patient-specific to detect signs of deteriorating health without ringing continuously, but alarm thresholds are not always calibrated to operate this way. An assessment of the connection between critical alarm threshold settings and the patient-specific variables in ICU would deepen our understanding of the issue. The aim of this retrospective descriptive and exploratory study was to assess this relationship using a large cohort of ICU patient stays.
