Objective: To preliminarily investigate the relationship between the Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) and dental caries initiation.

Methods: 100 S. mutans strains derived from caries-active and caries-free individuals were cultured in BHI medium supplemented with glucose. Cells were extracted and ruptured, and the extracted liquid protein was quantified with Coomassie brilliant blue G250 staining methods. LDH activity was assayed using the pyruvate-dependent oxidation of NADH-with and without FDP.

Results: LDH activity of the two groups strains had no difference (P > 0.05), but the distribution of differ class enzyme activity strains in the two groups was different (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: LDH activity of S. mutans is correlated to the initiation of dental caries to some extent. The measurement methods in this study can be applied in preliminary quantitation of LDH activity and the screening of S. mutans strains.

Bacterial infections evoke considerable apprehension in orthopedics. Traditional antibiotic treatments exhibit cytotoxic effects and foster bacterial resistance, thereby presenting an ongoing and formidable obstacle in the realm of therapeutic interventions. Achieving bacterial eradication and osteogenesis are critical requirements for bone infection treatment.

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is hindered by slow kinetics due to its four-electron process, limiting overall efficiency. The rational design of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based nanomaterials is crucial for enhancing the oxygen production rate. Using a straightforward strategy, we synthesized cobalt-iron layered double hydroxide (CoFe-LDH) hollow polyhedra loaded with CeO, with zeolite imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) serving as the precursor.

Ginsenosides possess potential protective effects against cisplatin (CDDP)-induced toxicity, but the limited bioavailability of ginsenosides hampered their therapeutic application. Ginseng exosomes (G-Exo), which are active ingredients in ginseng, exhibit excellent biocompatibility and low immunogenicity. Here, G-Exo were isolated from ginseng roots through a combination of ultracentrifugation and sucrose gradient centrifugation techniques.

Water-assisted electrocatalytic oxidation of alcohols into valuable chemicals is a promising strategy to circumvent the sluggish kinetics of water oxidation, while also reducing cell voltage and improving energy efficiency. Recently, transition metal (TM)-based catalysts have been investigated for anodic alcohol oxidation, but success has been limited due to competition from the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) within the working regime. In this study, NiCo-based Prussian blue analog (PBA) was electrochemically activated at the anodic potential to produce a Co-Ni(O)OH active catalyst with a nanosheet-like architecture.
