The aim of this article was to review different methods that are used for the evaluation of human and animal embryos' quality. Techniques for the production in vitro of various mammalian species embryos have been developed worldwide. Using modern methods for maturation of oocytes, fertilization and embryos' culture in vitro about 30-40% of bovine and 10-20% of human oocytes develop to blastocyst stage and can be used for transfer. Evaluation of embryos' quality is problematic not only for every researcher involved in embryology but also for every clinician who wants to select the best embryos for transfer. Lithuanian researchers and clinicians could also apply these worldwide popular methods for the evaluation of embryos' quality.

Oocyte quality is crucial for determining the subsequent embryo developmental capacity and reproductive outcomes. However, aging is detrimental to oocyte quality. Previous studies have demonstrated that soy isoflavones have positive effects on the reproductive performance of female pigs.

The herbicide glyphosate is widely used in agricultural practices around the world, can reach aquatic environments, and potentially impact non-target organisms. This study aimed to investigate the effects of glyphosate exposure (both as the active ingredient and its formulated product) on sperm quality, fertilization success, and development of pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis), a native freshwater fish species from Argentina. Results revealed a statistically significant increase in sperm motility at the highest concentration of the formulated product.

Introduction: Multimodal anticancer therapies greatly damage the fertility of breast cancer patients, which raises urgent demand for fertility preservation. The standard options for fertility preservation are oocyte and embryo cryopreservation; both require controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). However, there are safety concerns regarding breast cancer relapse due to the elevated serum estradiol levels during COH.

The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway is activated by luteinizing hormone in preovulatory follicle. However, its impact on ovulation remains inadequately explored. Utilizing in vivo studies and in vitro fertilization, we demonstrated that the negative effect of inhibition of mTOR signaling by rapamycin on oocyte quality during the ovulatory phase, with a notable decrease in the total cell count of blastocysts, a reduction in gastrula size, and fetal degeneration on the 16th day of gestation while not affecting ovulated oocyte count or granulosa cell luteinization.
