Two images of Cassiopeia A obtained at 24 micrometers with the Spitzer Space Telescope over a 1-year time interval show moving structures outside the shell of the supernova remnant to a distance of more than 20 arc minutes. Individual features exhibit apparent motions of 10 to 20 arc seconds per year, independently confirmed by near-infrared observations. The observed tangential velocities are at roughly the speed of light. It is likely that the moving structures are infrared echoes, in which interstellar dust is heated by the explosion and by flares from the compact object near the center of the remnant.

Brain functional connectivity under teleoperation latency: a fNIRS study.

ICIC Lab, Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure & Environment, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, United States.

Introduction: Long-distance robot teleoperation faces high latencies that pose cognitive challenges to human operators. Latency between command, execution, and feedback in teleoperation can impair performance and affect operators' mental state. The neural underpinnings of these effects are not well understood.

Accurate control over the coordination circumstances of single-atom catalysts (SACs) is decisive to their intrinsic activity. Here, two single-site heterogeneous organometallic catalysts (SHOCs), Cp*Ir-L/GDY (L = OH and Cl ; Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl), with the fine-tuned local coordination and electronic structure of Ir sites, are constructed by anchoring Cp*Ir complexes on graphdiyne (GDY) matrix via a one-pot procedure. The spectroscopic studies and theoretical calculations indicate that the Ir atoms in Cp*Ir-Cl/GDY and Cp*Ir-OH/GDY have a much higher oxidation state than Ir in the SAC Ir/GDY.

A compact and cost effective NIR-VIS-UV lidar echo emulator (LEE) was designed and manufactured as a compact breadboard. The LEE is an application specific optical pulse shaper delivering a short lidar return (echo) in the ns range overlapped with a long lidar return in the µs range with a repetition rate from 100 Hz - 500 Hz. The short echo power levels are in the range from 0.

Iron pentacarbonyl is a textbook example of fluxionality. We trap the molecule in cryogenic matrices to study the vibrational dynamics of CO stretching modes involved in the fluxional rearrangement. The infrared spectrum in Ar and N is composed of about ten narrow bands in the spectral range of interest, indicating the population of various lattice sites and a lowering of the molecular symmetry in the trapping sites.

Photon echoes and two dimensional spectra of the amide I band of proteins measured by femtosecond IR - Raman spectroscopy.

Infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy are fundamental techniques in chemistry, allowing the convenient determination of bond specific chemical composition and structure. Over the last decades, ultrafast multidimensional IR approaches using sequences of femtosecond IR pulses have begun to provide a new means of gaining additional information on molecular vibrational couplings, distributions of molecular structures and ultrafast molecular structural dynamics. In this contribution, new approaches to measuring multidimensional spectra involving IR and Raman processes are presented and applied to the study of the amide I band of proteins.
