In an endoscopically performed conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy, insertion of a Jones glass tube can be difficult if the nasal end of the tube draws soft tissue around the tunnel in front of the tube. A urologic Tiemann catheter has been used for Jones tube placement in 44 cases since 2001. The tube is put in the lumen end of the catheter, the tip of which is bulbous and gradually tapered in its diameter. The catheter can be easily inserted into the tunnel and pulled out of the nose with forceps, leaving the glass tube in the tunnel.

Background: The role of beta-blockers in severe, traumatic brain injury (TBI) management is debated. Severe TBI may elicit a surge of catecholamines, which has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality. We hypothesize administering propranolol, a non-selective beta-blocker, within 48 h of TBI will reduce patient mortality within 30 days of injury.

Subcutaneous emphysema results from air or gas being forced into the fascial spaces of subcutaneous tissue. Once the air or gas has entered the fascial spaces, it travels along connective tissue causing a mass effect and swelling. This rare complication usually presents with mild severity during the immediate postoperative period following surgical procedures of the head or neck regions and self-resolves with conservative treatment.

Purpose: Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare, aggressive pediatric malignancy. Advanced ACC requires multimodal treatment, including surgery and systemic chemotherapy including cisplatin, etoposide, doxorubicin, and mitotane. This is associated with significant gastrointestinal toxicity, resulting in many patients being unable to complete scheduled therapy.

Objective: This study aims to examine the efficacy of gastric tube decompression in rapid tip positioning during bedside blind insertion of nasoenteric tubes.
Methods: Between August 2023 and July 2024, patients who were critically ill in the emergency intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital in Beijing who required nasoenteric tube placement were enrolled in this study. Gastric tube decompression was used to facilitate the tip positioning of nasoenteric tubes inserted blindly (without direct visualization), at the bedside.
