Primordial germ cells (PGCs), the progenitors of gametes, are essential for teleost reproduction. While their formation is conserved across teleosts, the activation, migration routes, and localization periods vary among species. In this study, we developed a novel transgenic line, Tg(ddx4:TcCFP13-nanos3), based on the Nile tilapia genome, to label PGCs with clear fluorescent signals in the freshwater angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare).

Divergent destinies: insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying EPI and PE fate determination.

Mammalian pre-implantation development is entirely devoted to the specification of extra-embryonic lineages, which are fundamental for embryo morphogenesis and support. The second fate decision is taken just before implantation, as defined by the epiblast (EPI) and the primitive endoderm (PE) specification. Later, EPI forms the embryo proper and PE contributes to the formation of the yolk sac.

Purpose: This study aims to address the challenging estimation of trajectories from freehand ultrasound examinations by means of registration of automatically generated surface points. Current approaches to inter-sweep point cloud registration can be improved by incorporating heatmap predictions, but practical challenges such as label-sparsity or only partially overlapping coverage of target structures arise when applying realistic examination conditions.

Methods: We propose a pipeline comprising three stages: (1) Utilizing a Free Point Transformer for coarse pre-registration, (2) Introducing HeatReg for further refinement using support point clouds, and (3) Employing instance optimization to enhance predicted displacements.

Mechanosensitive stacking structure with continuous solar controllability for real-time thermal management.

Adaptive control of solar light based on an optical switching strategy is essential to tune thermal gain, while real-time solar regulation and hence on-demand thermal management coupled with dynamic conditions still faces a formidable challenge. Herein, we develop a stacking structure which is mechanosensitive and can be finely tuned depending on the dynamic cavitation effect. Specifically, the stacking structure transfers from a solid monolith state to porous layered state progressively under mechanical stretching, and the resulting porous layered state gradually goes back to the solid monolith state once the load is released.

Examining cancer patient preferences during three stages of decision making and family involvement: a multicenter survey study in China.

BMC Med Inform Decis Mak

January 2025

Center for Evidence-Based and Translational Medicine, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, 169 Donghu Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan, 430071, China.

Background: Medical decision-making is a complex multi-stage process. Chinese cancer patients' preference for participation in decision-making stages, family involvement and influencing factors remain unclear.

Methods: A total of 1,422 cancer patients from four tertiary hospitals in China were included in the cross-sectional survey.
