Human ORF (ecthyma contagiosum).

J Hand Surg Br

Orthopaedic Department, Limnos General Hospital, Limnos, Greece.

Published: August 2005

Orf is a viral cutaneous infection typically seen on the hands of people involved in sheep and goat farming. We report 31 cases of orf and consider its pathology, characteristic appearance, diagnosis, treatment and complications.

is a ubiquitous inhabitant of estuarine and marine environments that causes vibriosis in aquatic animals and food poisoning in humans. Accessory colonizing factor (ACF) is employed by to assist in the colonization and invasion of host cells leading to subsequent illnesses. In this work, Δ, an in-frame deletion mutant strain lacking the 4th to the 645th nucleotides of the open reading frame (ORF) of the gene, and the complementary strain were constructed to decipher the function of AcfA in .

Biochemistry textbooks describe eukaryotic mRNAs as monocistronic. However, increasing evidence reveals the widespread presence and translation of upstream open reading frames preceding the "main" ORF. DNA and RNA viruses infecting eukaryotes often produce polycistronic mRNAs and viruses have evolved multiple ways of manipulating the host's translation machinery.

Different treatment for humeral shaft fractures: A network meta-analysis.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Kaifeng Tuberculosis Control Center, Kaifeng, China.

Background: The main treatment methods for humeral shaft fractures include minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO), intramedullary nailing (IMN), open reduction and internal fixation (ORF), and non-operative treatment (NonOP). However, the optimal treatment plan remains unclear. This article utilizes a network meta-analysis to compare the therapeutic effects of MIPO, IMN, ORF, and NonOP for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures.

Department of Basic Medicine, College of Medicine, Qinghai University, Xining810016, China.

Exploring the variability of the intestinal flora of patients with hepatic blastocysticercosis and searching for members of the intestinal microflora that may play a role in the disease process by means of macro-genome sequencing technology. A case-control study was used to include fecal samples from patients with hepatic vesicular schistosomiasis admitted to Qinghai Provincial People's Hospital between October 2023 and January 2024 and individuals attending health checkups. The experimental group (AE group) consisted of 10 patients with liver vesicular schistosomiasis and the control group (NC group) consisted of 9 individuals attending health checkups.

Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs) are a key interface between virus and host, and these interactions are important to both viral reprogramming of the host and to host restriction of viral infection. In particular, viral-host PPI networks can be used to further our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of tissue specificity, host range, and virulence. At higher scales, viral-host PPI screening could also be used to screen for small-molecule antivirals that interfere with essential viral-host interactions, or to explore how the PPI networks between interacting viral and host genomes co-evolve.
