Fertilization rate and embryonic mortality were assessed in 636 ewes inseminated in each uterine horn with 50 x 10(6) frozen spermatozoa from four control rams and from four rams submitted to a moderate (1.4-2.2 degrees C), but repeated, intermittent (16 h/day for 21 consecutive days) increase in their subcutaneous scrotal temperature by means of scrotal insulation. Pregnancy was assessed twice in each ewe from concentration of progesterone in blood plasma at 17 days and by ultrasound at 65 days after insemination. No differences were observed in the pregnancy rate at 17 days between ewes inseminated with semen collected from control rams (56.0, 65.2, 66.7 and 60.3%) and from heated rams (60.6, 71.8, 63.6 and 48.2%) before or after 4, 15 and 21 days of heating, respectively. In contrast, the rate of embryonic mortality between 17 and 65 days after insemination was significantly higher at days 4, 15 and 21 in the heated rams (78.7, 78.6 and 93%) than in the control rams (55, 59 and 65.7%). These results indicate that an intermittent slight, but repeated, increase in the subcutaneous scrotal temperature could induce a significant increase in the embryonic mortality rate. As these changes were apparent on day 4 of heating, an effect must have occurred on sperm stored in the epididymis.

tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) are a newly recognized class of small noncoding RNAs (sncRNAs) that play significant roles in various diseases. The Wnt pathway plays a key role in various physiological processes such as embryonic development, tissue renewal and regeneration. In the regulation of Wnt/β-catenin, Forkhead box k1(FOXK1), Frizzled class receptor 3 (FZD3), and Wnt5b can be targeted and inhibited by three tRFs: tRF3008A targets FOXK1 to inhibit colorectal cancer (CRC), 5'-tiRNAVal targets FZD3 to inhibit breast cancer (BrC), and tRF-22-8BWS7K092 targets Wnt5b to induce ferroptosis in lung cells.

Background: Chordoma is a rare bone cancer arising from the embryonic notochord with special predilection to the axial skeleton. The locally destructive nature and metastatic potential of chordomas can lead to devastating outcomes in terms of survival. The purpose of this study was to examine potential risk factors predictive of metastatic disease at presentation and prognostic factors in patients with metastasis.

The herbicide glyphosate is widely used in agricultural practices around the world, can reach aquatic environments, and potentially impact non-target organisms. This study aimed to investigate the effects of glyphosate exposure (both as the active ingredient and its formulated product) on sperm quality, fertilization success, and development of pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis), a native freshwater fish species from Argentina. Results revealed a statistically significant increase in sperm motility at the highest concentration of the formulated product.

Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors represent 20-25% of childhood malignancies, with 35-40 new cases annually in Slovakia. Despite treatment advances, high mortality and poor quality of life in a lot of cases persist. This study assesses the clinical features, treatment modalities, and survival rates of pediatric CNS tumor patients in the single largest center in Slovakia.

Preeclampsia affects 2% to 8% of pregnancies worldwide and results in significantly high maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, with delivery being the only definitive treatment. It is not a single disorder, but rather a manifestation of an insult(s) to the uteroplacental unit -whether maternal, fetal, and/or placental. Multiple etiologies have been implicated, including uteroplacental ischemia, maternal infection and/or inflammation, maternal obesity, sleep disorders, hydatidiform mole, maternal intestinal dysbiosis, autoimmune disorders, fetal diseases, breakdown of maternal-fetal immune tolerance, placental aging, and endocrine disorders.
