Patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis (HD) are subject to the unique effects of both uremia and the dialysis procedure on multiple organ systems. Many patients on chronic HD suffer from chronic eye diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, and the interaction of these diseases with the dialysis procedure can lead to worsening of vision. This review focuses on the common eye diseases seen in patients undergoing chronic HD and how the dialysis procedure and the uremic state impact the visual system.

Background: Patients treated with chronic dialysis or kidney transplantation have difficulties in maintaining employment. We aimed to estimate employment rates among dialysis and kidney transplant patients from 3 years before to 3 years after initiating dialysis or undergoing transplantation.

Methods: All first-time dialysis and kidney transplantation patients aged 18-65 years in Denmark from 2005 to 2019 were identified using the Danish Nephrological Register and linked with information about social security benefits.

Background: Creatinine-based estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equations are widely used in clinical practice but exhibit inherent limitations. On the other side, measuring GFR is time consuming and not available in routine clinical practice. We developed and validated machine learning models to assess the trustworthiness (i.

Objective: As radiocephalic fistula is not necessarily appropriate for all patients with advanced kidney disease, our aim was to investigate the sensitive indicators that affect the functional primary patency of radiocephalic fistulas.

Methods: This prospective observational study included consecutive patients referred to the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University for initial creation of radiocephalic fistula from July 2017 to December 2019. Preoperative ultrasound parameters, demographic characteristics, serum indicators and comorbidities were recorded.

Background: Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of deferasirox in patients in peritoneal dialysis, however, its effect has not been studied in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Objective: To investigate the impact of iron chelation on telomere length, oxidative stress, and ferritin levels in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Methods: This is an open-label study, with a control group of patients undergoing hemodialysis, who will receive treatment with deferasirox 15mg/kg/day for 6 months for iron chelation.
