We previously reported that CD1d, a molecule responsible for the presentation of lipid antigens, is expressed in atherosclerotic lesions and that its expression is restricted to dendritic cells. Recent studies demonstrating that CD1d-restricted natural killer T (NKT) cells are involved in atherogenesis prompted the present study investigating whether NKT cells are present in human atherosclerotic lesions and, if so, whether there is an association between NKT cells and dendritic cells. We found that NKT cells do accumulate in rupture-prone shoulders of atherosclerotic plaques and observed direct contacts of dendritic cells with NKT cells in rupture-prone regions of plaque.

Immune and metabolic factors play an important role in the onset and development of insomnia. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between insomnia and immune cells and metabolites. Data for 731 immune cell phenotypes, 1400 metabolites, and insomnia in this study were obtained from the GWAS open-access database.

We have developed a 37-color spectral flow cytometry panel to assess the phenotypical differentiation of innate and adaptive immune lymphoid subsets within human intestinal tissue. In addition to lineage markers for identifying innate lymphoid cells (ILC), TCRγδ, MAIT (mucosal-associated invariant T), natural killer (NK), CD4 and CD8 T cells, we incorporated markers of differentiation and activation (CD45RA, CD45RO, CD25, CD27, CD38, CD39, CD69, CD103, CD127, CD161, HLA-DR, CTLA-4 [CD152]), alongside transcription factors (Bcl-6, FoxP3, GATA-3, Helios, T-bet, PU.1 and RORγt) and chemokine receptors (CCR4, CCR6, CCR7, CXCR3, and CXCR5).

Background: Colorectal neuroendocrine tumors with liver metastases (CRNELM) are associated with a poorer prognosis compared to their nonmetastatic counterparts. A comprehensive understanding of the tumor microenvironment (TME) heterogeneity between primary lesions (PL) and liver metastases (LM) could provide crucial insights for enhancing clinical management strategies for these patients.
Methods: We utilized single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze fresh tissue samples from CRNELM patients, aiming to elucidate the variations in TME between PL and LM.

Lung cancer (LC) is the predominant cause of cancer-related fatalities globally, with the highest death rates in both genders, primarily attributed to smoking. The non-kinase transmembrane cell surface glycoprotein, CD44, enhances LC cell migration and invasion, leading to drug resistance and an unfavorable prognosis. This research formulated a cisplatin-loaded gold nanoshell (HCP@GNS) integrated with hyaluronan (HCP@GNS@HA) to enhance targeting capability and realize a synergistic effect of chemo-photothermal therapy (chemo-PTT) against LC.

Natural killer (NK) cells can control metastasis through cytotoxicity and IFN-γ production independently of T cells in experimental metastasis mouse models. The inverse correlation between NK activity and metastasis incidence supports a critical role for NK cells in human metastatic surveillance. However, autologous NK cell therapy has shown limited benefit in treating patients with metastatic solid tumors.
