Three new esters of orsellinic acid, globosumones A-C (1-3), and three known compounds, orsellinic acid (4), orcinol, and trichodion (5), were isolated from Chaetomium globosum endophytic on Ephedrafasciculata (Mormon tea). The structures of the new compounds 1-3 were established spectroscopically, which included 2D NMR experiments and 1H NMR studies on Mosher's ester derivatives. All compounds were evaluated for inhibition of cell proliferation in a panel of four cancer cell lines, NCI-H460 (non-small cell lung cancer), MCF-7 (breast cancer), SF-268 (CNS glioma), and MIA Pa Ca-2 (pancreatic carcinoma), and normal human fibroblast cells (WI-38). Only globosumones A (1) and B (2) were found to be moderately active.

Fungal secondary metabolites (SMs) have broad applications in biomedicine, biocontrol, and the food industry. In this study, whole-genome sequencing and annotation of were conducted, followed by comparative genomic analysis with 11 other species of Polyporales to examine genomic variations and secondary metabolite biosynthesis pathways. Additionally, transcriptome data were used to analyze the differential expression of polyketide synthase (PKS), terpene synthase (TPS) genes, and transcription factors (TFs) under different culture conditions.

Four undescribed cytochalasins (1-4), three undescribed orsellinic acid derivatives (5-7) and two known metabolites including methyl lecanorate (8) and methyl orsellinate (9) were isolated from the solid-state cultivation of a soil-derived fungus Trichocladium asperum SQ2-3 collected in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Their structures were elucidated by analysis of NMR (1D and 2D) and mass spectrometry data. The absolute configurations of 1-7 were assigned by a combination of the modified Mosher's method, microscale derivatization and Mo(OAc)-induced circular dichroism experiment.

Among these are the antibacterial aquastatins, glycosylated heteromeric depsides formed through the condensation of orsellinic acid with corticiolic acid. In this work, we isolated aquastatins and the recently described geministatins, along with several novel aquastatin-related depsides with different alkyl side chains from the fungus MST-FP2131.

Investigation of the secondary metabolites of the solid-state rice cultures from the European basidiomycetes Terana coerulea and Sparassis brevipes afforded three previously undescribed secondary metabolites identified as two p-terphenyl derivatives (1 and 2) and one orsellinic acid congener (3) in addition to another known, isoeverninic acid (4). Chemical structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated through comprehensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses, coupled with HR-MS and other spectral methods. The isolated compounds were assessed for their cytotoxic and antimicrobial activities.

Biodiscovery efforts in Indonesia have aimed to explore the understudied chemical diversity of its rich lichen flora, seeking to find new products endowed with significant biological properties. The chemical screening of a extract led to selection of this species for further investigation. LC/MS and H NMR-based dereplication pinpointed six chlorodepsidones from the thallus of a sample of this lichen.
