Several microbial clones that could grow on the benz(a)pyrene medium were identified from the soils contaminated with petroleum products. It was shown that benz(a)pyrene could be degraded by the obtained cultures that selectively utilized the carcinogenic molecules of benz(a)pyrene in the presence of other sources of carbohydrate. The authors give recommendations on the biodestruction of benz(a)pyrene and other polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons under natural conditions in order to improve the oncoecological situation.

In aqueous and solid media, 2-HP-β/γ-CD inclusion complexes with poly aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) Phenanthrene (PHN), Anthracene (ANT), Benz(a)pyrene (BaP), and Fluoranthene (FLT) were investigated for the first time. The inclusion complexes were characterized and investigated using fluorescence and HNMR spectroscopy. The most prevalent complexes consisting of both guests and hosts were those with a 1:1 guest-to-host ratio.

Female breast cancer is the leading malignancy surpassing lung cancer recently, and its incidence is continued to rise in many countries. The existing anticancer drugs have limitations like drug resistance and adverse effects leading to poor clinical outcomes. The natural compounds withaferin-A and propolis have been individually reported for their anticancer activity in preclinical models.

Background: Epidemiological studies have found that prenatal exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is associated with increased risk for neural tube defects (NTDs). Aberrant DNA methylation, excessive apoptosis, and oxidative stress have been implied as the mechanism underlying the association between PAH exposure and NTDs, respectively. However, the role of DNA methylation aberration of apoptotic initiator CASP8 (caspase-8, apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase) in the formation of NTDs in association with PAH exposure is not known.

Rationale: The anion mass spectral lifetimes for several aromatic hydrocarbons reported in the subject article were related to significantly different electron affinities. The different values are rationalized using negative ion mass spectral data.
Methods: Electron affinities for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are reported from the temperature dependence of unpublished electron capture detector data.
