The high-temperature phase I of anhydrous caffeine was obtained by heating and annealing the purified commercial form II at 450 K. This phase I can be maintained at low temperature in a metastable state. A powder X-ray diffraction pattern was recorded at 278 K with a laboratory diffractometer equipped with an INEL curved position-sensitive detector CPS120. Phase I is dynamically orientationally disordered (the so-called plastic phase). The Rietveld refinements were achieved with rigid-body constraints. It was assumed that on each site, a molecule can adopt three preferential orientations with equal occupation probability. Under a deep undercooling of phase I, below 250 K, the metastable state enters in a glassy crystal state.

Transmission electron microscopy, especially at cryogenic temperature, is largely used for studying biological macromolecular complexes. A main difficulty of TEM imaging of biological samples is the weak amplitude contrasts due to electron diffusion on light elements that compose biological organisms. Achieving high-resolution reconstructions implies therefore the acquisition of a huge number of TEM micrographs followed by a time-consuming image analysis.

Dynamic responsive structural colored materials have drawn increased consideration in a wide range of applications, such as colorimetric sensors and high-safety tags. However, the sophisticated interactions among the individual responsive parts restrict the advanced design of multimodal responsive photonic materials. Inspired by stimuli-responsive color change in chameleon skin, a simple and effective photo-crosslinking strategy is proposed to construct hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) based hydrogels with multiple responsive structured colors.

A 50-year-old patient with a prior history of chronic smoking presented to the emergency department with diffuse abdominal pain, primarily localized to the right hypochondrium and epigastric region, along with nausea, but without fever, vomiting, or urinary symptoms. Laboratory tests were largely unremarkable except for isolated hematuria and a mildly elevated CRP. Given the atypical clinical presentation, a 3-phase abdominal CT scan (without contrast, portal, and delayed phases) was conducted, revealing a horseshoe kidney with an obstructing 4 mm stone at the right ureteral meatus.

Dendritic cells are the most potent antigen-presenting cells in immune therapeutic approaches for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection. Here, we developed a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of autologous HBV vaccine-pulsed DCs and their induced T cells (HPDCT) in CHB patients. This was a randomised, prospective, open-label, multicentre, superiority study and 309 treatment-naive CHB patients were divided into HPDCT plus nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) group (n = 84), NAs mono-therapy group (n = 82), HPDCT plus Peg-interferon (Peg-IFN) group (n = 69), Peg-IFN mono-therapy group (n = 74).

The microbubble is formed by partial filling of an ethanol-water mixture in the microcavity that is spliced to the end face of a single-mode fiber. Due to different surface tension of ethanol and water, the uneven temperature gradient induced by a laser causes the non-uniform distribution of ethanol-water molecules on the bubble surface.
