The Eppendorf Schizophrenia Inventory (ESI) is a new clinical questionnaire aimed at self-experienced cognitive disturbances that are considered to be diagnostically specific for schizophrenia. Two ESI validation studies are presented in this report. The aim of study I was to search for objective correlates of the ESI in 100 schizophrenic inpatients. In study II, the diagnostic validity of the ESI was examined by group comparisons (inpatients with first episode or chronic schizophrenia, alcoholism, depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder, and healthy adults). Study I yielded numerous plausible correlations between ESI subscales and other clinical scales, neuropsychological tests, psychopathological interview data, and neurological symptoms. Study II supported the diagnostic validity of the ESI. A confirmatory factor analysis conducted with the combined schizophrenic sample from both studies corroborated the assumed factor structure. These results confirm the reliability and validity of the ESI.

Resorcinol is a widespread substance used in a large variety of manufacturing industries, including cosmetics, with endocrine-disrupting activity on the thyroid function. The aim of the present study was to develop and validate a sensitive, selective and robust method to quantify resorcinol in urine and thereby assess hairdressers' occupational exposure. Link & Otto, an endemic plant of Mexico, is widely distributed in the central area of the country, mainly in the states of Tlaxcala, Puebla, and the State of Mexico. Ethnobotanical studies in different communities of these states have demonstrated that it is primarily used to treat diabetes and mental illnesses, such as "los nervios" (nerves) and "el ansia" (anxiety); these terms are used in traditional medicine, but it is accepted that they refer to anxiety disorders. : Pentacyclic triterpenoids, as bioactive phytochemicals, have proven to exhibit significant bioactivity (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, and anticancer) and low cytotoxicity. This study developed convenient methods for extracting and characterizing a birch bark extract enriched in pentacyclic triterpenoids (betulin, betulinic acid, and lupeol) and entrapped in two bioavailable nanoformulations. The performance of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy as a cost-effective and non-destructive method was evaluated comparatively with accurate HPLC-based methods.

Selecting channels for motor imagery (MI)-based brain-computer interface (BCI) systems can not only enhance the portability of the systems, but also improve the decoding performance. Hence, we propose a cross-domain-based channel selection (CDCS) approach, which effectively minimizes the number of EEG channels used while maintaining high accuracy in MI recognition.
