The latex of four plants viz. Euphorbia royleana, Jatropha gossypifolia (Euphorbiaceae), Nerium indicum and Thevetia peruviana (Apocynaceae) caused significant reduction in acid/alkaline phosphatase activity and anti-acetylcholinesterase activity in nervous tissue of freshwater air breathing fish Channa marulius. The reduction in the activity of both phosphatases and AChE were time as well as dose dependent.

The enzymatic stoichiometry approach is based on the assumption that the metabolic and stoichiometric requirements of soil microorganisms are reflected in the production of enzymes targeting specific nutrient resources, making enzyme activities a useful tool for assessing microbial nutrient limitations. In this approach, β-1,4-glucosidase (BG), β-1,4-N-acetylglucosaminidase (NAG) (occasionally combined with leucine aminopeptidase, LAP), and acid/alkaline phosphatase (AP) are used as proxies for the broader suite of enzymes responsible for catalyzing complex substrates containing carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P), respectively, because these enzymes catalyze the terminal reactions that release products containing C, N, and P. The fundamental premise of the approach can thus be reformulated as follows: BG:NAG and BG:AP ratios reflect the relative limitations of C versus N and C versus P, respectively, with higher ratios indicating stronger C limitation.

Preterm delivery (PTD) is associated with severe adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes and higher medical costs. Therefore, PTD warrants more attention. However, predicting PTD remains a challenge for researchers.

Fumigants and fungicides are effective at controlling soil-borne pathogens but might also adversely affect soil beneficial microbes, such as soil phosphorus (P) solubilizing microbes, further altering nutrient cycling processes. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of the fumigant chloropicrin (CP) and the fungicide azoxystrobin (AZO) on soil microeukaryotes and P-cycling related soil bacteria through a greenhouse experiment. Soil microeukaryotic communities and bacterial communities containing two phosphomonoesterase encoding genes (phoC and phoD) were analysed using high-throughput sequencing methods.

Background: To analyze the relationship between lipid metabolism, coagulation function, and bone metabolism and the contributing factor and staging of non-traumatic femoral head necrosis, and to further investigate the factors influencing the blood indicators related to the staging of non-traumatic femoral head necrosis.
Methods: The medical records of patients with femoral head necrosis were retrieved from the inpatient medical record management system, and the lipid metabolism, bone metabolism, and coagulation indices of non-traumatic femoral head necrosis (including alcoholic, hormonal, and idiopathic group) were obtained according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, including Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Non-High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol, Apolipoprotein A1, Apolipoprotein (B), Apolipoprotein (E), Uric Acid, Alkaline Phosphatase, Bone-specific Alkaline Phosphatase, Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time, Prothrombin Time, D-dimer, Platelet count. The relationship between these blood indices and the different stages under different causative factors was compared, and the factors influencing the stages of non-traumatic femoral head necrosis were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression.

Argonaute (Ago) as a powerful enzyme has provided new insights into biosensing due to its programmability, high sensitivity, and user-friendly operation. However, current strategies mainly rely on phosphorylated guide DNA to modulate the cleavage activity of Ago, which is limited in versatility and simplicity. Herein, the authors report the Mn-enhanced cleavage activity of Ago and employ Mn-ions with variable valence to regulate the activity of Pyrococcus furiosus Ago (PfAgo) for biosensing applications.
