Two sensitive spectrophotometric and atomic absorption spectrometric procedures have been developed for determination of cinchocaine hydrochloride (Cin.Cl) in pure form and in pharmaceutical formulation. The spectrophotometric method was based on formation of an insoluble colored ion-associate between the cited drug and tetrathiocyanatocobaltate (CoTC) or hexathiocyanatochromate (CrTC) which dissolved and extracted in an organic solvent. The optimal experimental conditions for quantitative extraction such as pH, concentration of the reagents and solvent were studied. Toluene and iso-butyl alcohol proved to be the most suitable solvents for quantitative extraction of Cin-CoTC and Cin-CrTC ion-associates with maximum absorbance at 620 and 555 nm, respectively. The optimum concentration ranges, molar absorptivities, Ringbom ranges and Sandell sensitivities were also evaluated. The atomic absorption spectrometric method is based on measuring of the excess cobalt or chromium in the aqueous solution, after precipitation of the drug, at 240.7 and 357.9 nm, respectively. Linear application ranges, characteristic masses and detection limits were 57.99-361.9, 50.40 and 4.22 microg ml(-1) of Cin.Cl, in case of CoTC, while 37.99-379.9, 18.94 and 0.81 microg ml(-1) in case of CrTC.

Dimension-engineered synthesis of atomically thin II-VI nanoplatelets (NPLs) remains an open challenge. While CdSe NPLs have been made with confinement ranging from 2 to 11 monolayers (ML), CdTe NPLs have been significantly more challenging to synthesize and separate. Here we provide detailed mechanistic insight into the layer-by-layer growth kinetics of the CdTe NPLs.

The development of a metallic copper-based catalyst system remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis of highly stable, active, and reusable Cu0 catalyst for the carboboration of alkynes using carbon electrophiles and bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) as chemical feedstocks to afford di- and trisubstituted vinylboronate esters in a regio- and stereoselective manner with appreciable turnover number (TON) of up to 2535 under mild reaction conditions. This three-component coupling reaction works well with a variety of substituted electrophiles and alkynes with broad functional group tolerance.

Context: The two-dimensional graphene/MoTe heterostructure holds extensive potential applications in optoelectronic devices, sensors, and catalysts. To expand its optical applications, this study systematically investigates the adsorption stability of metal atoms (Au, Pt, Pd, and Fe) on the graphene/MoTe and their influence on its optoelectronic properties employing first-principles methods. The findings indicate that after the adsorption of Au and Pd, the structure retains its direct bandgap properties, while the adsorption of Pt and Fe exhibits indirect bandgap characteristics.

AISI 316L stainless steel is extensively used in various fields, including medicine. In this study, in order to improve antibacterial properties, reduce elastic modulus, increase hydrophilicity and delay corrosion on the surface of AISI 316L stainless steel pieces for biomedical applications, zinc and magnesium elements were used for coating. Zn monolayer, Zn-Mg bilayer, and Zn-Mg-Zn triple coatings were deposited on AISI 316L substrates using the thermal evaporation method.

The semi-hydrogenation of alkynes into alkenes rather than alkanes is of great importance in the chemical industry, and palladium-based metallic catalysts are currently employed. Unfortunately, a fairly high cost and uncontrollable over-hydrogenation impeded the application of Pd-based catalysts on a large scale. Herein, a sandwich structure single atom Pd catalyst, Z@Pd@Z, was prepared impregnation exchange and epitaxial growth methods (Z stands for ZIF-8), in which Pd single atoms were stabilized by pyrrolic N in a zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8).
