Migratory water birds are considered to be carriers of high pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs). In Japan, mallards are often observed during winter, and HPAIV-infected mallards often shed viruses asymptomatically. In this study, we focused on mallards as potential carriers of HPAIVs and investigated whether individual wild mallards are repeatedly infected with HPAIVs and act as HPAIV carriers multiple times within a season.

Chronic arsenic exposure affects over 140 million people globally. While arsenic easily crosses the placenta, the specific mechanisms impacting placental immune cell populations and fetal health are unclear. Maternal arsenic exposure is epidemiologically linked to increased infection risk, mortality, and cancer susceptibility in offspring, emphasizing the importance of understanding placentally-mediated immune effects.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) within the tumor microenvironment (TME) contribute to the malignant progression of tumors by exerting immunosuppressive effects. Bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) have been widely demonstrated in various types of solid tumors. LPS can promote the malignant progression of tumors, which mechanism has not yet been fully elucidated.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that increases the prevalence of cognitive impairment in the geriatric population. Aerobic exercise is an excellent non-pharmacological therapeutic strategy to prevent Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia. The exact molecular mechanism of aerobic exercise (Exe) as an intervention to counter cognitive decline is far from clear.

Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a pivotal mediator in the pathological progression of osteoarthritis (OA), playing a central role in disease progression. However, the rapid clearance of IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) from the joints may hinder the efficacy of intra-articular IL-1Ra injections in reducing OA-associated pain or cartilage degradation. Sustaining sufficient levels of IL-1Ra within the joints via adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated gene therapy presents a promising therapeutic strategy for OA.
