The ratio of the B+ and B0 meson lifetimes was measured using data collected in 2002-2004 by the D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. These mesons were reconstructed in B-->mu(+)nuD(*-)X decays, which are dominated by B0 and B-->mu(+)nuD 0X decays, which are dominated by B+. The ratio of lifetimes is measured to be tau(+)/tau(0)=1.080+/-0.016(stat)+/-0.014(syst).

ω Meson from Lattice QCD.

Phys Rev Lett

November 2024

Helmholtz-Institut für Strahlen- und Kernphysik (Theorie) and Bethe Center for Theoretical Physics, Universität Bonn, 53115 Bonn, Germany.

Many excited states in the hadron spectrum have large branching ratios to three-hadron final states. Understanding such particles from first principles QCD requires input from lattice QCD with one-, two-, and three-meson interpolators as well as a reliable three-body formalism relating finite-volume spectra at unphysical pion mass values to the scattering amplitudes at the physical point. In this work, we provide the first-ever calculation of the resonance parameters of the ω meson from lattice QCD, including an update of the formalism through matching to effective field theories.

Dark-Sector Search via Pion-Produced η and η^{'} Mesons Decaying Invisibly in the NA64h Detector.

Phys Rev Lett

September 2024

Authors affiliated with an international laboratory covered by a cooperation agreement with CERN.

We present the first results from a proof-of-concept search for dark sectors via invisible decays of pseudoscalar η and η^{'} mesons in the NA64h experiment at the CERN SPS. Our novel technique uses the charge-exchange reaction of 50 GeV π^{-} on nuclei of an active target as the source of neutral mesons. The η,η^{'}→invisible events would exhibit themselves via a striking signature-the complete disappearance of the incoming beam energy in the detector.

The production of ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S) mesons in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions is studied in their dimuon decay channel using the CMS detector at the LHC. The ϒ(3S) meson is observed for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, with a significance above 5 standard deviations. The ratios of yields measured in Pb-Pb and pp collisions are reported for both the ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S) mesons, as functions of transverse momentum and Pb-Pb collision centrality.

Article Synopsis
  • The research tests lepton flavor universality in decays of B mesons, specifically analyzing the B±→K±μ+μ- and B±→K±e+e- decay processes.
  • Utilizing data from 2018 proton-proton collisions at the LHC, the study involved around 10 billion b hadron decays to gather accurate results.
  • The ratio of branching fractions R(K) was measured and found to be 0.78-0.23+0.47, which is close to the standard model prediction of R(K)≈1, and the integrated branching fraction for the B±→K±μ+μ- process was calculated as (12.42±0.68)

First Search for Dark-Trident Processes Using the MicroBooNE Detector.

Phys Rev Lett

June 2024

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Upton, New York 11973, USA.

We present a first search for dark-trident scattering in a neutrino beam using a dataset corresponding to 7.2×10^{20} protons on target taken with the MicroBooNE detector at Fermilab. Proton interactions in the neutrino target at the main injector produce π^{0} and η mesons, which could decay into dark-matter (DM) particles mediated via a dark photon A^{'}.
