Respiratory interventions including noninvasive ventilation, continuous positive airway pressure and high-flow nasal oxygen generated infectious aerosols may increase risk of airborne disease (SARS-CoV-2, influenza virus) transmission to healthcare workers. We developed and tested a prototype portable UV-C device to sterilize high flows of viral-contaminated air from a simulated patient source at airflow rates of up to 100 l/m. Our device consisted of a central quartz tube surrounded 6 high-output UV-C lamps, within a larger cylinder allowing recirculation past the UV-C lamps a second time before exiting the device.

Background: The combination of high prices and uncertain effectiveness is a growing challenge in the field of orphan medicines, hampering health technology assessments. Hence, new methods for establishing price benchmarks might be necessary to support reimbursement negotiations. In this study, we applied several pricing models containing cost-based elements to the case of lumasiran for treating primary hyperoxaluria type 1.

This study aims to evaluate the risk levels of intelligent management in Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) through the application of the Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation (FCE) model. It begins by outlining the structure of the green supply chain (GSC), encompassing various components such as suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors, while incorporating considerations of environmental and sustainability factors. Data is collected from Company Y through a questionnaire survey, and the FCE model is employed to assess the risk levels of intelligent management within GSCM.

Article Synopsis
  • SARS-CoV-2, responsible for COVID-19, has caused over 7 million deaths worldwide since its emergence, leading to trials of treatments like the anti-IL6 inhibitor tocilizumab, which failed to significantly improve survival rates.
  • Researchers isolated extracellular vesicles (EVs) from 39 severe COVID-19 patients to explore their potential as biomarkers, finding that specific viral proteins (spike and nucleocapsid) were dynamic in expression during treatment and recovery.
  • The study suggests that the changing levels of EV viral proteins could correlate with clinical outcomes, indicating that EVs might help identify long COVID and other complications in patients with severe cases.
