Distal peripheral microembolism is caused by embolization of atherosclerotic debris into small arteries and arterioles. The recent advances in endovascular technique have been met with a gradual increase in the incidence of iatrogenic atheroembolism. This review seeks to explore the nature of distal peripheral microembolism, pathophysiology, and the management options, with a focus on iatrogenic distal peripheral microembolism.

Background And Aims: Gastrointestinal motility persists when peripheral cholinergic signaling is blocked genetically or pharmacologically, and a recent study suggests nitric oxide drives propagating neurogenic contractions.
Methods: To determine the neuronal substrates that underlie these contractions, we measured contractile-associated movements together with calcium responses of cholinergic or nitrergic myenteric neurons in un-paralyzed ex vivo preparations of whole mouse colon. We chose to look at these two subpopulations because they encompass nearly all myenteric neurons.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 84 patients were divided 70%:30% into a training and a testing cohort. Parameters such as cap morphology, side branches, bridging collaterals, flush occlusion, and length were derived from preprocedural CT angiography.
