Fasting plasma insulin concentrations were obtained in 82 patients (51 men and 31 women), mean age 60 +/- 11 years, with a body mass index >25 kg/m(2) who had coronary angiography because of suspected symptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD). Obstructive CAD was diagnosed if there was >50% obstruction of > or =1 vessel. Of 82 patients, 37 (45%) had left main or 3-vessel CAD, 22 (27%) had 2-vessel CAD, 9 (11%) had 1-vessel CAD, and 14 (17%) had no obstructive CAD. Among the 4 groups, there was no significant difference in gender, age, dyslipidemia, and smoking. Hypertension (p = 0.0003), diabetes mellitus (p = 0.035), and increased fasting plasma insulin concentration (p < 0.0001) were significantly associated with the severity of CAD. Stepwise ordinal logistic regression analysis identified increased fasting plasma insulin concentrations in these obese subjects as a significant independent risk factor for the severity of angiographic CAD (p < 0.0001).

Aim: Snakes exhibit remarkable physiological shifts when their large meals induce robust postprandial growth after prolonged fasting. To understand the regulatory mechanisms underlying this rapid metabolic transition, we examined the regulation of protein synthesis in pythons, focusing on processes driving early postprandial tissue remodeling and growth.
Methods: Using the SUnSET method with puromycin labeling, we measured in vivo protein synthesis in fasting and digesting snakes at multiple post-feeding intervals.

The association between heavy metal exposure and diabetes is controversial and vitamin E (VE) may reduce diabetes risk. We aimed to examine the associations between blood heavy metals (BHMs) and diabetes risk and VE's role in the relationship. From the 2007-2018 NHANES, 10,721 participants aged ≥ 18 were included for multiple statistical analyses, which revealed that BHMs and dietary VE intake were negatively associated with diabetes and fasting plasma glucose (FPG).

Blood microsampling (BμS) has recently emerged as an interesting approach in the analysis of endogenous metabolites but also in metabolomics applications. Their non-invasive way of use and the simplified logistics that they offer renders these technologies highly attractive in large-scale studies, especially the novel quantitative microsampling approaches such as VAMs or qDBS. Herein, we investigate the potential of BµS devices compared to the conventional plasma samples used in global untargeted mass spectrometry-based metabolomics of blood.

Untreated hyperprolactinemia and autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's disease) seem to increase cardiometabolic risk. The cardiometabolic effects of cabergoline were less significant in young women with concurrent euthyroid Hashimoto's illness. This study sought to investigate if the detrimental effects of this condition on cabergoline efficacy are also evident in postmenopausal women.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the impact of Ramadan intermittent fasting on glycemic control in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: This historical prospective study utilized electronic health records from a major state-mandated healthcare provider. The research sample included Muslim adults aged 40-70 years, who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
