Presenting symptoms of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) are variable, and as imaging and EEG may be normal in the early to middle stages of the disease process, serial testing is vital when there is clinical suspicion for sCJD. We present a case of probable Heidenhain variant of sCJD (HvCJD) with notable rapid progression. A 72-year-old woman presented with neurological decline following new-onset visual changes.

14-3-3s constitute a group of proteins belonging to the phosphoserine/phosphothreonine family that are involved in the regulation of several physiological pathways by interacting with several client proteins. All the eukaryotic cells are known to possess 14-3-3 isoforms. In addition, 14-3-3s isolated from different eukaryotic cells share high sequence homology with each other.

There is a molecular coupling between neurodegenerative diseases, including glaucomatous neurodegeneration (GN), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and Parkinson's disease (PD). Many cells in the eye and the brain have the right amount of 14-3-3 proteins (14-3-3 s) and their isoforms, such as β, ε, γ, η, θ, π, and γ. These cells include keratocytes, endothelial cells, corneal epithelial cells, and primary conjunctival epithelial cells.

Vernalization and photoperiod pathways converging at FT1 control the transition to flowering in wheat. Here, we identified a gain-of-function mutation in FT-D1 that results in earlier heading date (HD), and shorter plant height and spike length in the gamma ray-induced eh1 wheat mutant. Knockout of the wild-type and overexpression of the mutated FT-D1 indicate that both alleles are functional to affect HD and plant height.
