One man out of 30000 and one woman out of 100000 ones is transsexual. The etiology of transsexualism has not been known yet. The treatment is complex and a cooperation of the specialist team is necessary. An operation is a second step after the diagnosis of transsexualism (psychological, psychiatric and sexological), hormonal therapy end Real Life Test. Follow-up therapy with the psychologist and supportive therapeutic group is extremely important after the operation.

The demographic history of a population, and the distribution of fitness effects (DFE) of newly arising mutations in functional genomic regions, are fundamental factors dictating both genetic variation and evolutionary trajectories. Although both demographic and DFE inference has been performed extensively in humans, these approaches have generally either been limited to simple demographic models involving a single population, or, where a complex population history has been inferred, without accounting for the potentially confounding effects of selection at linked sites. Taking advantage of the coding-sparse nature of the genome, we propose a 2-step approach in which coalescent simulations are first used to infer a complex multi-population demographic model, utilizing large non-functional regions that are likely free from the effects of background selection.

Background: For people receiving haemodialysis, a balance has to be struck between removing sufficient but not too much fluid during a treatment session and maintaining any remaining kidney function they might have. In the BISTRO trial, this study sought to establish if getting the balance right might be improved by the additional use of bioimpedance, a device that measures body fluid composition to help decide how much fluid to remove during dialysis. Designing and executing this trial, which incorporated complex and repeated trial procedures that would be dependent on participant engagement, presented challenges that demanded effective public and patient involvement.

Mental health outcomes in dementia caregivers: a systematic review of yoga-based interventions.

Dement Neuropsychol

January 2025

Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Instituto de Psiquiatria, Rio de Janeiro RJ, Brazil.

Unlabelled: Mind-body interventions have been explored to enhance the psychological well-being of dementia caregivers; however, the specific effects of yoga practice remain underexamined.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the benefits of yoga on quality of life (QoL), life satisfaction, psychological well-being, attention, self-compassion, perceived stress, anxiety, depression, and caregiver burden for dementia caregivers.

Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted on September 11, 2024, in databases including SciELO, PubMed, BVSalud, Web of Science, Embase, and PsycINFO, focusing on the effects of yoga for informal dementia caregivers compared to passive or active control groups through randomized and non-randomized trials.

The subthalamic nucleus is thought to play a crucial role in controlling impulsive actions. Networked among the basal ganglia and receiving input from several cortical areas, the subthalamic nucleus is well positioned to influence action selection when faced with competing and conflicting action outcomes. The purpose of this study was to test the dissociable roles of the dorsal and ventral aspects of the subthalamic nucleus during action conflict in patients with Parkinson's disease undergoing intraoperative neurophysiological recording and to explore a potential mechanism for this inhibitory control.

Background: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are the most common postoperative complications after cesarean section (CS), with increased mortality, prolonged hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs.

Objective: To systematically estimate the global incidence and identify the risk factors associated with SSI, focusing on the variation between high- and low-income countries.

Search Strategy And Selection Criteria: Observational studies reporting on the incidence of SSI after CS were systematically searched in PubMed, Embase and SCOPUS.
