The cytotoxicity and antioxidant properties of herb extracts of Achillea alexandri-regis were studied. Combined chloroform and ethylacetate extracts exhibited a pronounced cytotoxic effect against HeLa cancer cells (IC50 = 25.92 +/- 4.96 microg/ml), and lower cytotoxicity against K562 leukemia cells (IC50 = 48.59 +/- 18.31 microg/ml). The methanol extract was found to be a moderately cytotoxic in vitro agent against HeLa and K562 cells. No suppressive activity was detected on non-malignant peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). The antioxidant activity of the methanol extract was assessed by DPPH radical scavenging. The methanol extract of A. alexandri-regis showed concentration dependent DPPH radical scavenging activity with IC50 = 36.14 +/- 0.05 microg/ml.

Antarctic organisms are known for producing unique secondary metabolites, and this study specifically focuses on the less-explored metabolites of the moss Warnstorfia fontinaliopsis. To evaluate their potential bioactivity, we extracted secondary metabolites using four different solvents and identified significant lipase inhibitory activity in the methanol extract. Non-targeted metabolomic analysis using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) on this extract predicted the presence of 12 compounds, including several not previously reported in mosses.

Purpose: To elucidate the mechanical properties of the bovine lens cortical membrane (CM), the nuclear membrane (NM) containing cholesterol bilayer domains (CBDs), and whole bovine lenses.
Methods: The total lipids (lipids plus cholesterol) from the cortex and nucleus of a single bovine lens were isolated using the monophasic methanol extraction method. Supported CMs and NMs were prepared from total lipids extracted from the cortex and nucleus, respectively, using a rapid solvent exchange method and probe-tip sonication, followed by the fusion of unilamellar vesicles on a flat, freshly cleaved mica surface.

Nonideality in a binary solvent mixture is manifested through anomalies in various physical properties like viscosity, dielectric constant, polarity, freezing point, boiling point, and so forth.
