Esophageal carcinoma (EC) is rare in the younger age group, with only 15 cases reported in world literature. It is even rarer for an etiological agent to be implicated.A case of a 15-yr-old boy with squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus is reported. Human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 DNA sequences were detected in the neoplasm and the adjacent mucosa by polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The adjacent mucosa also showed virus-induced changes.

CCN1 is a matricellular protein highly expressed in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) but hardly detectable in esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Expression of CCN1 in EAC cells leads to TRAIL-mediated apoptosis. Unlike TRAIL, which primarily triggers cell death, APRIL and BAFF promote cell growth via NFκB signaling.

Purpose: Synchronous esophageal (EC) and rectal carcinoma (RC) is a rare and challenging condition, particularly in curative-intended treatment. Our understanding of predictors of progression in Barrett's esophagus (BE) remains incomplete. To address this gap, we evaluated histological features and biomarkers that could predict dysplastic/neoplastic progression in patients with BE. We conducted a retrospective study to identify eligible BE patients and classified the cases into two groups: cases with BE progression (n = 10; progressing to high-grade dysplasia or carcinoma within five years of initial diagnosis) and cases without BE progression (n = 52; without progression to high-grade dysplasia or carcinoma within five years).

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is standard for advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, though often ineffective. Therefore, predicting the response to chemotherapy before treatment is desirable. However, there is currently no established method for predicting response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Inhibin, β, which is also known as INHBA, encodes a protein that belongs to the Transforming Growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily, which plays a pivotal role in cancer. Gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) cancer refers to the cancers that develop in the colon, liver, esophagus, stomach, rectum, pancreas, and bile ducts of the digestive system. The role of INHBA in all GI tract cancers remains understudied.
