Despite decades of research, it has been difficult to resolve debates about the existence and nature of partisan bias-the tendency to evaluate information more positively when it supports, rather than challenges, one's political views. Whether partisans display partisan biases, and whether any such biases reflect motivated reasoning, remains contested. Myeloproliferative neoplasms, polycythemia vera, essential thrombocytosis, and primary myelofibrosis are a unique group of clonal hematopoietic stem cell neoplasms that share somatic, gain-in-function driver mutations in 2, , and . As a consequence, these disorders exhibit similar phenotypic features, the most common of which are the ceaseless production of normal erythrocytes, myeloid cells, platelets alone or in combination, extramedullary hematopoiesis, myelofibrosis, and a potential for leukemic transformation. In the case of polycythemia vera and essential thrombocytosis, however, prolonged survival is possible.

Nile Red Fluorescence: Where's the Twist?

Nile Red is a fluorescent dye used extensively in bioimaging due to its strong solvatochromism. The photophysics underpinning Nile Red's fluorescence has been disputed for decades, with some studies claiming that the dye fluoresces from two excited states and/or that the main emissive state is twisted and intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) in character as opposed to planar ICT (PICT). To resolve these long-standing questions, a combined experimental and theoretical study was used to unravel the mechanism of Nile Red's fluorescence.
