Targeting KDM1A in Neuroblastoma with NCL-1 Induces a Less Aggressive Phenotype and Suppresses Angiogenesis.

J Clin Med

October 2024

Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Virchow Klinikum, Augustenburger Platz 1, 13353 Berlin, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • The KDM1A histone demethylase is linked to poor prognosis in aggressive neuroblastomas due to its role in regulating cell growth and differentiation.
  • Research demonstrated that NCL-1, a small molecule inhibitor of KDM1A, effectively reduced cell proliferation and induced neuronal differentiation in various neuroblastoma models.
  • In vivo studies showed that NCL-1 treatment significantly decreased tumor growth in mouse models by altering tumor cell behavior and disrupting blood vessel formation.

Stress response in tomato as influenced by repeated waterlogging.

Front Plant Sci

July 2024

Department of Plant Physiology, Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković"-National Institute of Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia.

Introduction: Plants respond to water stress with a variety of physiological and biochemical changes, but their response varies among species, varieties and cultivars. Waterlogging in tomato reduces plant growth, degrade chlorophyll and increase concentration of oxidative parameters. Priming can alleviate stress in plants caused by waterlogging enabling plants to be more tolerant to an additional stress in the current or even subsequent generation.

This research aims to show the effects of adding cardinality constraints to limit the number of different cross-sections used in simultaneous sizing and shape optimization of truss structures. The optimal solutions for sizing and shape optimized trusses result in a generally high, and impractical, number of different cross-sections being used. This paper presents the influence of constraining the number of different cross-sections used on the optimal results to bring the scientific results closer to the applicable results.

The microbes present in the human gastrointestinal tract are regularly linked to human health and disease outcomes. Thanks to technological and methodological advances in recent years, metagenomic sequencing data, and computational methods designed to analyze metagenomic data, have contributed to improved understanding of the link between the human gut microbiome and disease. However, while numerous methods have been recently developed to extract quantitative and qualitative results from host-associated microbiome data, improved computational tools are still needed to track microbiome dynamics with short-read sequencing data.

Background: Evidence-practice gaps exist in urology. We previously surveyed European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines for strong recommendations underpinned by high-certainty evidence that impact patient experience for which practice variations were suspected. The recommendation "Do not offer neoadjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) before surgery for patients with prostate cancer" was prioritised for further investigation.
