Three beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) conjugates of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were synthesized by enzymatic methods. Transesterification of beta-CD with vinyl ester of indomethacin, ketoprofen and etodolac was performed by the catalysis of alkaline protease from Bacillus subtilis in anhydrous DMF for 3 days. The drug molecules were selectively conjugated onto one of the secondary hydroxyl groups of beta-CD through ester-linkage to improve their poor water solubility and absorption characteristics. The products were characterized by ESI-MS, (1)H NMR and (13)C NMR. The structures of products with monoacylation occurring at the C-2 secondary hydroxyl groups of beta-CD were confirmed.

The most well-known hydroxyl radical (OH)-generating system is the classic iron-mediated Fenton reaction. Thiourea has been considered as an efficient OH scavenger and is frequently used to study the role of OH in various biochemical and medical research studies. Here we found that the highly reactive OH can be produced from thiourea and HO through a metal-independent pathway, as measured by electron spin resonance (ESR) secondary radical spin-trapping and fluorescent methods.

While photochemical aging is known to alter secondary organic aerosol (SOA) properties, this process remains poorly constrained for anthropogenic SOA. This study investigates the photodegradation of SOA produced from the hydroxyl radical-initiated oxidation of naphthalene under low- and high-NO conditions. We used state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (MS) techniques, including extractive electrospray ionization and chemical ionization MS, for the in-depth molecular characterization of gas and particulate phases.

As a vital precursor of hydroxyl radicals (OH), atmospheric nitrous acid (HONO) plays a significant role in tropospheric chemistry and the production of secondary pollutants. However, knowledge of its sources remains insufficient. To comprehensively investigate the HONO chemistry in polluted cities and alleviate the O pollution, based on a comprehensive HONO-related field campaign in Zibo City, on the North China Plain, the parameterized formulas of additional HONO sources were validated in a box model (based on the default MCMv3.

The red blood cell (RBC) membrane is unique and crucial for maintaining structural-functional relationships. Maternal smoking induces significant changes in the morphological, rheological, and functional parameters of both maternal and foetal RBCs, mainly due to the continuous generation of the free radicals. The major aim of this study was to follow the consequences of a secondary stressor, like fungal infection, on the already compromised RBC populations.

Thymomas have been associated with the generation of paraneoplastic autoantibodies to neurogenic epitopes, collapsin-response-mediator protein-5 receptor (CRMP-5) and alpha-amino-3-hydroxyl-5methyl-4isoxazolepropionic acid receptor (AMPAR), in patients with acute viral infection. We report a patient with thymoma and myasthenia gravis, with SARS-CoV-2 infection, who became comatose secondary to autoimmune encephalitis. Plasmapheresis, high-dose steroids, pyridostigmine, eculizumab, and rituximab did not restore neurologic function.
