We compared some processes characteristic for both apoptosis and terminal differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes. It can be proposed that nonapoptotic programmed cell death takes place during differentiation of keratinocytes. Apoptosis and terminal differentiation of keratinocytes appear to be different processes but some similar molecular mechanisms are involved in these processes.

Aberrant differentiation of keratinocytes is closely associated with both pathological skin disorders and non-pathological skin conditions, making the maintenance of normal differentiation process essential for skin integrity and homeostasis. This study investigated the effect of olive-derived secoiridoid oleacein (OC) on keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation in vitro and further validated it in a co-culture model with fibroblasts mimicking a skin-like environment. OC was compared with oleuropein (OP) as a reference compound having similar chemical structure and reported effects on skin barrier formation and wound healing.

2,4-Dichlorphenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is the active ingredient in selective herbicides commonly used worldwide to control non-native aquatic plants. Limited research on the impacts of 2,4-D exposure on teleost innate immunity, such as barrier defense provided by epidermis, has been conducted. Fish keratocyte explant culture serves as a rapid, low-cost, cutaneous wound healing in vitro model of cell differentiation and migration.

Let-7 microRNAs are tumor suppressor microRNAs, and their reduced expression frequently occurs in various types of cancers, including breast cancer. A notable correlation exists between decreased let-7 microRNA levels and the overexpression of Lin28A and Lin28B, particularly in breast cancer cases with poor prognoses. Dysregulation of Wnt signaling significantly contributes to the upregulation of Lin28A and Lin28B in breast cancer.

Subjects carrying variants in the caspase recruitment domain family member 14 (CARD14) gene can exhibit characteristics of psoriasis and pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP). The term 'CARD14-associated papulosquamous eruption (CAPE)' is used to describe individuals presenting with symptoms of both conditions. This study aimed to diagnose two cases of CAPE and explore the pathogenic mechanisms, including inflammatory trends and differential features.

Melasma is a common pigmentary disorder accompanied by tissue changes in composition and structure through the epidermis and dermis. In this study, we propose to employ optical coherence tomography (OCT) combined with deep learning techniques for melasma diagnostics. Specifically, a portable spectral domain OCT system with a handheld probe was developed for clinical skin imaging.
