We uncover emergent universality arising in the equilibration dynamics of multimode continuous-variable systems. Specifically, we study the ensemble of pure states supported on a small subsystem of a few modes, generated by Gaussian measurements on the remaining modes of a globally pure bosonic Gaussian state. We find that beginning from highly entangled, complex global states, such as random Gaussian states and product squeezed states coupled via a deep array of linear optical elements, the induced ensemble attains a universal form, independent of the choice of measurement basis: it is composed of unsqueezed coherent states whose displacements are distributed normally and isotropically, with variance depending on only the particle-number density of the system.

Hydrogen-bonded cocrystals have attracted considerable attention as they allow fine-tuning of properties through the choice of hydrogen-bond donors and acceptors. In this study, triphenylarsine oxide (PhAsO) is introduced as a strong hydrogen-bond acceptor molecule. Due to its higher Lewis basicity compared to triphenylphosphine oxide (PhPO), it acts as a strong hydrogen-bond acceptor, which is demonstrated in six new cocrystals with HO and -di(hydroperoxy)cycloalkanes.

Molecular dynamics simulation is an important tool in computational materials science and chemistry, and in the past decade it has been revolutionized by machine learning. This rapid progress in machine learning interatomic potentials has produced a number of new architectures in just the past few years. Particularly notable among these are the atomic cluster expansion, which unified many of the earlier ideas around atom-density-based descriptors, and Neural Equivariant Interatomic Potentials (NequIP), a message-passing neural network with equivariant features that exhibited state-of-the-art accuracy at the time.

Purpose: To describe diagnostic approaches and management strategies for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and recent fracture in England.

Methods: We developed a survey based on a patient at high fracture risk and a new diagnosis of probable PHPT. The survey was circulated among 50 secondary care professionals identified by the Society for Endocrinology Calcium and Bone special interest group.

Suture material in pancreticojejunal anastomosis: a systematic review.

ANZ J Surg

January 2025

General Surgical Department, Liverpool Hospital, Corner of Elizabeth and Goulburn Street, Liverpool, New South Wales, 2170, Australia.

Background: Post-operative pancreatic fistula is a common and morbid complication of pancreaticojejunal anastomosis. While gastrointestinal anastomosis is typically performed using absorbable sutures, this issue has prompted experimentation with non-absorbable sutures. This study aims to assess the available literature to provide recommendations on suture choice in this anastomosis.
