A new series of N-substituted imide derivatives have been synthesized by treating phthalic anhydride, naphthalic anhydride and their substituted derivatives with 2-hydrazino-1-imidazoline hydrobromide, various para-substituted aryl amines, aminoglutethimide and 2,4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine. Compounds 9, 10, 12, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 34-36 have been selected and screened for antineoplastic activity by National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, USA. Some newer aminoglutethimide derivatives 37-39 have also been prepared in order to study the effect of N-substitution on its pharmacological profile for the treatment of carcinoma. These compounds (37-39) have exhibited weak inhibition of human placental aromatase as compared to aminoglutethimide.

High ionic conductivity poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) are of growing interest for their thermal and electrochemical stability, processability, and potential in safe, flexible all-solid-state electrochemical devices. While various approaches to enhance the ionic conductivity are reported, the influence of cation substituents is rarely addressed. Moreover, some of the asymmetric anions recently developed for high-conductivity ionic liquids were never tested in PILs.

We report the development of oxoammonium-catalyzed oxidation of -substituted amines via a hydride transfer mechanism. Steric and electronic tuning of catalyst led to complementary sets of conditions that can oxidize a broad scope of carbamates, sulfonamides, ureas, and amides into the corresponding imides. The reaction was further demonstrated on a 100-g scale using a continuous flow setup.

Phthalimide and N-substituted phthalimide have a special structure that helps them to be pharmaceutically useful and biologically active. In this study, we investigated the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects of a synthetic phthalimide-containing derivative in an experimental asthma model. In vitro determination of antioxidant and chelating activity was carried out by spectrophotometric methods.

species comprise a ubiquitous pathogenic fungal genus responsible for causing candidiasis. They are one of the primary causatives of several mucosal and systemic infections in humans and can survive in various environments. In this study, we investigated the antifungal, anti-biofilm, and anti-hyphal effects of six -substituted phthalimides against three species.

A biomass-derived difuran compound, denoted as HAH (HMF-Acetone-HMF), synthesized by aldol-condensation of 5-hydroxyfurfural (HMF) and acetone, can be partially hydrogenated to provide an electron-rich difuran compound (PHAH) for Diels-Alder reactions with maleimide derivatives. The nitrogen (N) site in the maleimide can be substituted by imidation with amine-containing compounds to control the hydrophobicity of the maleimide moiety in adducts of furans and maleimide by Diels-Alder reaction, denoted as norcantharimides (Diels-Alder adducts). The structural effects on the toxicity of various biomass-derived small molecules synthesized in this manner to regulate biological processes, defined as low molecular weight (≤ 1000 g/mol) organic compounds, were investigated against diverse microbial and mammalian cell types.
