This article examines two bounded stories of HIV stigma told by an older woman who took care of her adult son as he died of AIDS. Her self-definition as a protector of her dying son was challenged when she encountered ostracism and prejudice. Her words and expressions illuminate her confrontation and resistance to associative stigma. An expansion of Goffman's view of stigma management is necessary to understand this caregiver's experiences in the face of the larger cultural narrative of HIV stigma:This caregiver did not manage stigma, she actively fought it.

Dementia and the associated stigma pose unique threats to the identity of persons with dementia, triggering attempts to cope with resulting identity changes. We explore identity change narratives and metaphors written by people with dementia and care partners in public blog posts. These metaphors reflect bloggers' motivation to adapt, adjust, and cope with identity change and their motives to challenge common misunderstandings of dementia as a complete loss of selfhood.

As part of the formative work of the SUCCEED Africa consortium, we followed a participatory process to identify existing gaps and resources needed for the development and implementation of a rights-based intervention for people with lived experience of psychosis in Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe. In 2021, we conducted a desk review of published and grey literature on psychosis in the four SUCCEED countries. Using an adapted version of the PRIME situation analysis template, data were extracted across the five domains of the WHO Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Matrix: health, education, livelihoods, social and empowerment.

Patient involvement in psychiatry education struggles to be representative of the patients that doctors will treat once qualified. The issues of mental health stigma, cultural perspectives of mental health and the unique role of teaching, required exploring to establish the barriers and facilitators to increasing the diversity of patients involved in psychiatry education. To explore the causes of this lack of representation, a roundtable event with 34 delegates composed of people with lived experience of mental health issues, people from underserved communities, academics, mental health professionals and charity representatives met to discuss the barriers to involvement in psychiatry education and possible solutions.
