[structure: see text] Alpha-phosphonozirconacyclopentenes or alpha-borylzirconacyclopentenes react by bromination, iodination, allylation, and propargylation to generate unique vinyl boronates and vinyl phosphonates not obtainable by other methods. The reaction proceeds in two steps, with both high regio- and stereoselectivity. With the vinyl boronates, the Zr-Csp2 bond is initially cleaved by 1 equiv of electrophile. With the phosphonates, either the Zr-Csp2 bond (allyl bromide, Br(2)) or the Zr-Csp3 bond (I(2), propargyl bromide) may be initially cleaved. The addition of a second equivalent of an electrophile results in disubstitution.

RNA interference (RNAi) and oxidative stress inhibition therapeutic strategies have been extensively utilized in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA), the most prevalent degenerative joint disease. However, the synergistic effects of these approaches on attenuating OA progression remain largely unexplored. In this study, matrix metalloproteinase-13 siRNA (siMMP-13) was incorporated onto polyethylenimine (PEI)-polyethylene glycol (PEG) modified FeO nanoparticles, forming a nucleic acid nanocarrier termed si-Fe NPs.

An isoreticular metal-organic framework (MOF) series was constructed from nickel or cobalt nodes, phosphonate monoester, and bipyridine linkers. The cobalt-containing MOFs were found to catalyze the dehydrogenative C-H borylation of alkenes under mild conditions. This process selectively generates vinyl boronate without the formation of alkyl boronate byproducts and is insensitive to air, enabling large-scale preparation of the target products with isolated yields of over 80%.

We present a new type of elementoboration reaction, the thioboration of terminal alkynes. This method enables highly controllable regio-/stereo-/chemoselective - and -thioboration on demand, affording synthetically versatile and densely functionalized vinyl boron/vinyl sulfide derivatives in a straightforward manner without the need for a transition-metal catalyst.

Diabetes is associated with excessive inflammation, which negatively impacts the fracture healing process and delays bone repair. Previously, growing evidence indicated that activation of the nod-like receptor (NLR) family, such as nod-like receptor thermal protein domain-associated protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome induces a vicious cycle of chronic low-grade inflammatory responses in diabetic fracture. Here, we describe the synthesis of a bone adhesive hydrogel that can be locally injected into the fracture site and releases a natural inhibitor of NLRP3 (rutin) in response to pathological cue reactive oxygen species activity (ROS).

Highly energetic boron (B) particles embedded in hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) thermosetting polymers represent stable solid-state fuel. Laser-heating of levitated B/HTPB and pure HTPB particles in a controlled atmosphere revealed spontaneous ignition of B/HTPB in air, allowing for examination of the exclusive roles of boron. These ignition events are probed via simultaneous spectroscopic diagnostics: Raman and infrared spectroscopy, temporally resolved high-speed optical and infrared cameras, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy.
