[Relationship of activation of Tos17 and rice adult plant resistance to bacterial blight].

to investigate whether rice adult plant resistance (APR) is related to activation of long terminal repeat (LTR) retroelements, polymorphism of LTR retroelemnts Tos17 are studied using SSAP (Sequence-Specific Amplification Polymorphism) in seedlings and adult plants of rice cultivar Wase Aikoku 3 inoculated with Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzae, water and those untreated. Of 2000 fragments detected, 9 and 2 are activated in seedlings and adult plants induced by development, respectively; each 3 fragments are activated in seedlings and adult plants induced by pathogen, respectively. The number of activated Tos17 induced by development is more in seedlings than that in adult plants while it is equal due to pathogen induction in seedlings and adult plants, suggest that the activation of Tos17 induced by development probably associate with rice APR to bacterial blight.

Background: The long-term monitoring of the plant cover of Doñana shrublands is part of a harmonised protocol for the Long-term Ecological Monitoring Programme of Natural Resources and Processes targeting Terrestrial Vegetation. The general aim of this protocol is to monitor and assess the dynamics and trends of shrubland plant communities in Doñana. For shrublands, percentage cover is recorded annually, starting in 2008, by the Doñana Long-Term Monitoring Team in one field sampling campaign per year during the flowering season (between March and May) across 21 permanent square plots (15 m x 15 m).

Background: Septoria tritici blotch (STB) is one of the most damaging wheat diseases worldwide, and the development of resistant cultivars is of paramount importance for sustainable crop management. The negative impacts of drought on plant productivity and survival in natural and crop systems are increasing with global heating, yet our capacity to identify species capable of surviving drought remains limited. Here, we tested the use of a mixed-planting approach for assessing differences in seedling drought tolerance. To homogenize dehydration rates, we grew seedlings of 10 species of Eucalyptus together in trays where roots of all individuals were overlapping in a common loam soil.
