When we placed an ENA residue into primers at the 3' end, or the n-1, n-2, or n-3 position, which included a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) site at the 3' end, only primers containing the ENA residue at the n-2 position were read by Taq DNA polymerase for amplification. The use of the ENA primers avoided the generation of undesired short products, which are thought to be derived from primer-dimers. A greater discrimination of the SNP site by these primers containing the ENA residue was observed compared with that of the corresponding unmodified DNA primers that are often used for allele-specific polymerase chain reaction (AS-PCR). This improvement is probably due to the difficulty of incorporating a nucleotide into the mismatched ENA primer by Taq DNA polymerase in the modified primer-template duplex. These results demonstrate that ENA primer-based AS-PCR would enable a rapid and reliable technique for SNP genotyping.

The Enabled/VASP homology 1 (EVH1) domain is a small module that interacts with proline-rich stretches in its ligands and is found in various signaling and scaffolding proteins. Mena, the mammalian homologue of Ena, is involved in diverse actin-associated events, such as membrane dynamics, bacterial motility, and tumor intravasation and extravasation. Cellulose acetate (CA)-based electrospun nanofiber aerogel (ENA) has drawn extensive attention for wastewater remediation due to its unique separation, inherent porosity and biodegradability. However, the low mechanical strength, poor durability, and limited adsorption ability hinder its further applications. We herein propose using silane-modified ENA, namely T-CA@Si@ZIF-67 (T-ENA), with enhanced resilience, hydrophobicity, durability and hetero-catalysis to remediate a complex wastewater containing oil and drug residues.

ENA transporters are a group of P-type ATPases that are characterized by actively moving Na or K out of the cell against their concentration gradient. The existence of these transporters was initially attributed to some fungi, although more recently they have also been identified in mosses, liverworts, and some protozoa. Given the current increase in the number of organisms whose genomes are completely sequenced, we set out to expand our knowledge about the existence of ENA in organisms belonging to other phylogenetic groups.

This study aimed to explore the structural characteristics and antioxidant mechanism of donkey-hide gelatin peptides. After hydrolysis and ultrafiltration treatment, five gelatin peptides with different molecular weights (MWs) were obtained. Amino acid analysis showed that gelatin peptides with different MWs contained a large number of amino acids, including G, P, E, N, A, and R, and differences were noted in the content of various amino acids.

A novel Gram-reaction-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore forming, orange-pigmented bacterium identified as M10.2A, was isolated from marine residues submerged on the Malva-rosa beach (València, Spain), on the western coast of the Mediterranean Sea. This strain was catalase-positive and oxidase-negative and grew under mesophilic, neutrophilic and halophilic conditions.
